Chronic vomiting

Recommended Posts

Need advice and help ASAP!! Down 99 lbs since my VSG 4/13/13. I have had chronic vomiting DAILY at least once a day ever since!! Was hospitalized in Nov for low Protein and d/c after being told to eat more Protein Bars and shakes? !?! I can't keep down a cup of sherbet or a 1/2 cup salad without throwing up!! Along with the vomiting comes killer headaches. Some meals I'm good but at least once a day a meal or snack comes up! Please any advice would be great!! Do I get a second opinion?

That does not sound normal to me. What does your doctor say? You have checked your list of possibilities right? Not eating too fast, not eating too much, not drinking within 30 min of eating, etc? If your doctor is not helping you maybe you should see another doctor and get a second opinion. throwing up everyday is not healthy or normal. Something is not quite right.

So… random question: Can you list the foods that make you throw up? I'm only a little over 3 months post-op, however sherbert/ice cream and salad happen to be the two items that I really can't tolerate and tend to throw up. I'm just wondering if you have a long list of foods that causes this or if it's just a few??

There isn't a list per se. I wish there was but it just depends. Some days sherbert is all I can eat and other days I throw it right up?! It's so awful I'm thinking about going to Duke for a follow up with a second opinion

A follow-up sounds like a good idea. Daily vomiting is not good. I'm 5 months out and haven't thrown up even once.

I'm only 6 weeks out and the only time I have thrown up is when I took the Multi-Vitamin with Iron. Iron has always made me sick at my stomach. I quit the multi-vitamin and never happened again. I have found a new Vitamin but haven't started it yet.... but I will. The trip to Duke for a second opinion sounds like an excellent idea. you really need to get that done for peace of mind and to ensure you have not damaged your stomach with all of that vomiting. I wish you much luck and quick healing.

So you've thrown up daily for almost a year??? I definitely think you need to find out what is causing it!

I am also having trouble with vomiting a lot. My chest hurts because of all the vomiting. I went to my doctor but they are not sure what's wrong. They did an upper GI and the doctors here have not seen a sleeve before so they are not sure what to look for. I had my surgery in Mexico and I live in upstate NY. I had a band and had it revised to a sleeve. Since then I have been tired and nauseous a lot.

My advice would be to go to your surgeon ASAP... and if your throwing up liquids ... Sound like the band slip or your too tight ... I would go as a walk in and ask for X-rays of the band

Absolutely get another opinion. What you describe is not normal. Please let us know what you learn. Sending hugs.

I think i am having a sim. situation. I was having a problem with reflux and my surgeon drained my lap band border for me to have xrays. All was well and i have had 3 fills. some times i can eat with no problems, others a few bites and i have to throw up. Its not just the same thing i am eating that causes this. There's no patterns. what is an average meal for others ? I have a scheduled drs apt. in 2 wks but any help would be appreciated

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
