June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Recommended Posts

June 4th sleever here! I'm down 23 pounds. Somehow that doesn't seem to be enough. I'm getting around 600 calories per day or less. Is this good enough??

I am also a June 4th sleeved and am only down 18 pounds. I have been stalled for the last 2 weeks and getting more discouraged every day even though I know that stalls are common. Keep up the good work...23 lbs is great for one month

I think that the scale isn't the only thing that shows progress but of course, that's what we all look at. I haven't seen the dr yet but I know from my clothes that I am losing weight. The important thing for me is that I have gotten through week 1, feel great and for the first time in about a century, I can't use food as my go to anymore. If I'm stressed, i need to exercise, if I'm lonely i need to get involved with people, if i didn't get enough love growing up, I need to get over it. No more excuses for me.

I wish everyone great success in your journeys regardless if how you measure progress.

I'm glad to see someone else stalled. I started out at 247 and am down to 224. Stuck stuck stuck. I read that it may be too few calories so I've had about 600 today. That's a little more. I don't know how to get more when it just bubbles back up! My new treadmill is here but I'm waiting on it to be put together. I've been working outside cleaning my swimming pool deck, etc., so I know I'm getting in exercise. Maybe I'm just wishing it would be more magical! LOL! So glad to see you all here! It's so much better to see what others are going through.

Really? I think 23 pounds in a month is fantastic!! You might want to ask your Nut if you need to add some calories since your body may feel like it's starving even if you don't feel it. It then holds on to fat longer so maybe you need a kick start. But again, 23 pounds is great in my world. Keep up the good work!!

Hi all

Sorry for the delay in checking in, but life has been busy!

I'm 21 days post surgery (June 11) and down 32 lbs from date of surgery, 47 lbs since May 28. Now on soft solid diet and still getting used to my new pouch. Not being hungry gets in the way of adequate calorie intake.

There are times that I eat too fast and get the slimes, but other than that no pain or discomfort. I must say that I have not had such complete and sound sleep as since my surgery ... I'm very well rested to be sure.

I'm also pretty sure that since I'm not eating enough I have added a Protein Shake for Breakfast to ensure Vitamin and carb intake.

I use Visalus and it is chalk full of Vitamins and good stuff ... Best of all it tastes great!

Good luck to all of you June sleevers!

I was sleeved on 6/14. My HW: 224, SW: 208, CW: 190. I was feeling so good after surgery that I made the mistake of doing too much. Last Saturday in this hot Arkansas weather, I was helping my daughter move into her apartment and didn't take the time to drink fluids. BIG MISTAKE!!! I started getting dizzy and lightheaded. I'm still weak and dizzy, 5 days later, after trying to get in as much Fluid as possible. I'm just now starting to get back balanced! I probably should have gotten fluids IV but decided to try to drink, drink drink! I can't stress enough to keep hydrated!!!!

Re: Stalled

Glad to see I'm not alone. Sleeved on June 17th and promptly dropped about 10 lbs in the first week leading up to my one week post op visit. Since then...2 lbs in the last week. Frustrating. Wierd. Why aren't I losing when I''m not eating...and working out? Let's get going :)

I've lost 30 pounds since surgery. Also, when I first started, I was in a size 18-20. Now I'm in a 14 and they are starting to get too big. Almost time to start shopping for size 12

Do you all remember a time when we couldn't lose any weight? Now we're a little anxious about stalls. :) Each day, each week, each month is another step forward in our journey. Celebrate the small wins, like the fact that you aren't emotional eating, sneaking extra dessert, grabbing a snack in the drive thru and then heading home to cook dinner for your family and eat again. There's always something positive to focus on until that scale budges again. Good luck everyone. I'm one week and one day out and I was embarrassed to admit but on surgery day I weighed in at 202, stayed in hospital from Wednesday until Friday evening and by the time I came home and weighed, I'd actually gained weight......guess it was all the iv fluids. I've just started to go down back towards my surgery date weight. My post op app is late next week, I'm just praying I've lost a few pounds under my surgery weight by then. Good luck to all and remember it could always be worse.

Happy to say I am on Phase 2 as of today. Had a great doctors visit and found out I am 17 lbs down since my pre-op visit on 6/20, my surgery date was 6/25. I was happy all the incisions are clean and bandages off.. Can't wait until my belly is smaller so I can look down at my torso and see the incisions instead of looking in the mirror.

As I anticipated, puréed foods are not the most exciting in the world, so I need to put my creative cooking skills into gear. My treat for the day is my first cup of real coffee (only 1 per day) in 3 weeks but I left it black and added anise extract, so I feel like I'm having expresso with Sambuca in it!! Was one of my favorite restaurant post dinner drink, so having discovered this on day 1 of phase 2 has made me thrilled.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!!

Thanks to you all for posting updates. My surgery was 8 days ago and when I came home, I was heavier too from all the fluids. With that said, I am down now from my preop examination at the hospital by 13 pounds. Glad to see that not everyone dropped weight by the time they got home and just kept on going at racehorse speed. I wish we all could, but this really helps me get things in perspective. I was getting a little concerned that I wasn't losing. I have not felt hungry. Still on full liquids until next Wednesday. Never thought I'd be looking forward to pureed foods!

Janet,

Good luck to you! Glad you shared that as well, I was so discouraged at first. I've noticed that the more the swelling in my tummy goes down the better I feel about my progress. Also, adding creamy Soup has helped me have a bowel movement and I think that has attributed to the scale moving down as well. I'm still not taking in nearly the amount of Fluid that is recommended. I return to work next Monday, I plan to work half days the first week to ease myself back in.

Also, I can't sleep more that 5-6 hour per night and I still awaken 1-2 times per night. I tried really hard not to take a nap yesterday to see if that would help but again, I'm awake just before 4 am with no where to go. I'll put on some walking clothes about 5:30 and head to the park that's always a nice way to start my day

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
