Personally I can't eat bread of any kind (I'm Celiac/gluten free). It sticks and is very, very painful! I'm almost 11 months. Protein Shake & Greek yogurt Breakfast. Turkey bites, string cheese or chili for lunch. Small bag of Cheetos for a snack (I'm human!). Protein Bar for dinner. I need more fruits and veggies????

Thanks for the advise, I've been sooo scared to eat bread since my sleeve. I will still wait maybe another month to eat it. Too scared it will put pounds abd inches on me. But I really miss eating sandwiches.

skip the bread. my H is allergic to wheat and he eats just about anything you can make into a sandwich in a lettuce (boston butter) wrap. i wouldnt start eating sandwiches until you are are at goal... its a lot of carbs and lots of room in your tiny stomach. try the lettuce wrap.. my H actually prefers them!

I'm exactly one year out on May 30th. I eat shrimp cocktail, homemade spicy turkey chili, tilapia, egg salad, scrambled eggs w/salsa, spicy shrimp sushi (made w/brown rice), Greek yogurt w/chopped pecans, spaghetti squash, quinoa salad, spinach salad, turkey Jerky, nuts, hummus w/lentil crackers, chicken salad w/feta in a high Protein wrap, burger w/o bun, turkey meatballs, turkey meatloaf, pea Soup, refried Beans, baked ricotta, pizza-stuffed zucchini, chicken sausage and veggie stir fry. I can't tolerate baked or roasted chicken or turkey and I can't eat anything w/rice flour. I haven't had any sugar, bread, white potatoes, white rice or Pasta. I can eat brown rice on very small amounts. I still love my morning high protein coffee shake. :-)

I'm 7 months out and eat around 900-1000 calories a day. My diet is varied and revolves around: eggs, dannon or yo plait Greek yogurt with Special K Protein Cereal added to it, Lots of salad with grilled chicken or ham, edamame, veggies (brussel sprouts, fresh green Beans, asparagus, cauliflower, red pepper,) a little fruit here or there, fish, steak, hummus with carrots, Quest bars, quesadillas with lo carb tortilla, crackers, whipped pb, 100 cal bags of kettlecorn. I really don't eat rice, Pasta, potatoes except to have a bite here or there- it fills me up too much as does bread. I will eat an occasional piece of light bread toasted or a half of bagel thin but that's about all I can manage.

I'm down 125 lbs and still have 100 to go.

I am 10 months out and at or below goal. I eat about 1000 cals per day. I eat a huge variety of food but always Protein first, then veges then a little bit of starch like sweet potatoes or quinoa.

My understanding of what happens to bread is that on its way down the oesophagus the peristaltic movement causes it to ball up then when it reaches your stomach it feels like rocks landing. I have bought a whole sourdough loaf and sliced really thin slices, about quarter of an inch thick, then toasted the slice to have tuna or egg on for lunch. This one slice will have 2gm of protein! I could not have eaten any bread before about 8 or 9 months out, and I have it about once every couple of weeks now because it is yummy and makes a nice change. I am trying to have a normal diet and not say no to too many things. I don't have Pasta, and only ever have a teaspoon of rice if ever. I have had weight watchers ice cream but it is a special treat.

I have made some bad choices but just treat these as a learning process and move on, it don't call any of my choices cheats, just poor choices.

I am hoping that by having a large variety of food I will not get bored and will better manage to maintain the new skinny me.

Good luck to you all.

Definitely check with your surgeon before adding carbs. Occasionally I'll have a 1/4 cup of brown rice (maybe once a month), and maybe once a month I'll have one slice of whole-grain toast. Maybe every other month I have half of a sweet potato. So, I really don't have carbs except naturally occurring carbs in things like Beans, quinoa, almonds or walnuts, or Peanut Butter, etc. Try to stay away from frozen meals - remember we're all trying to change our lives and be healthier, and that's a lot of processed food. However, I do admit, I keep an emergency frozen meal in the fridge (e.g., I'm in a hotel for two weeks), but it's either an Atkins meal or the one variety of Lean Cuisine that doesn't include Pasta, rice or potatoes.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
