OH... and forgot to mention....

I TRIED ON MY WEDDING GOWN TODAY!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!

And what I love even more is that I tried on the size 18 which was too big!! The 16 was just about right.... so I'll probably go back in another 2 weeks and order the 14!!!! I still have 4 months until the wedding... that gives me plenty of time to get into it!!!

That is so exciting!!! How long does it take to get the dress in? Heck, you might be a 12 by then!!!!

Patty...

Sounds like you're doing well without the additional fill, remember slow & stead is best for the body, even if it is hard on the patience. Good idea on the mint after meals, I'm battling the desire to drink with & after meals. B4-Band I was using Water to fill me up at mealtimes, it's really hard to switch gears. I love lifesavers SF wintergreen!

I've had encouraging comments from 3 different people over the past few days. One was up at work on Thursday, where one of the women stated that I had really lost weight and was wondering how I did it. I'm open about the band up at work so I explained it to her. Funny thing is that she's not fat at all, but she sure seemed like she wanted one :)

Then Friday my ex-wife made some mention about changes in my face and profile when she came by to pick up the dogs, said I was looking better (hah!)

The last night I went out with a bunch of friends, and one that I hadn't seen in a while specifically complemented me on "looking slim." He asked what I was doing. My reply -- "eating less and working out" :) Technically, it's even true...

So I'm not too far into the journey, and I really don't see the changes in the mirror, but there must be something going on.

Ginger...

Thank you!

It takes about 8-10 weeks to get the dress in if they have to order it. They had a 18 and 14 in stock yesterday. My plan is to go back in a week with the rest of the bridesmaids and try on the 16 again... just to see how things have changed... then return once again a week later and try on the 14. That means its really time for me to crack down and go to the gym!!

Patty- congrats on doing so well! I'm sorry you have to wait for a fill but I remember reading a poll where a remarkably high % of bandsters didn't need a fill for many months (some never) - they have enough restriction with the band alone. Good luck!

Melissa- congrats on your progress and the wedding dress!

Manatee- you've lost 40 lbs!!! I'm sure that people can see a difference- congrats!!!

Hey Manatee (Slim!), 'eating less and working out' IS true...it may not be the WHOLE truth (:D), but it's not a lie either! :)

Congrats on your weight loss. I'm SURE it's noticeable! Just think what everyone will be saying by the time you reach your goal! :clap2:

Melissa O- sounds like you have a plan!

Manatee- that is great that people are noticing!

I am amazed at how my body has adjusted to not drinking with meals. It is like it knows. About an hour after I eat, I start to get thirsty! Then I check my watch and it is time!!

I have never been a big drinker so it is not that hard. However, it is very difficult to get Water in each day!!

Patty-It sounds like you are doing great! Kind of a bummer about the wait for an adjustment, but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Again, it sounds like you have it whipped even without restriction! Go you!

Melissa-Maybe we could get a pic of when you try on the dress next time? I don't want to wait until you show wedding pictures! C'mon...

Manatee-I can't wait until I feel like people are REALLY noticing, like they are with you. My friends and family say they notice, but I would do the very same for them whether I actually did or not. Someone like my dental hygienist or my hairdresser (I don't go very often) will be the tell. They have no idea about the band and it will be a good while before I see either of them. I'm excited to see!

As far as the water-First thing in the morning I make a large 11 oz. mug of caffeine-free herbal tea with stevia for sweetener and I also drink as much Water as I can taking my supplements and meds individually. That way, I start out the day drinking over 16 oz. right off the bat!

I bought a 32 oz. bottle with a flip up straw (Walmart) that has a finger grip and I just haul it around everywhere I go. It goes down really fast when I mix in one of the flavored packets (they are too sweet for me if I mix them into only 16 oz. of water). I like the peach tea ones. In fact, I usually wind up drinking much more than 64 oz.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Thanks for the suggestions with the Water. I think the problem with me, is that I am very inactive right now, so I have to get up off my butt to get water, LOL! Once I am back to work (when school starts) it will be much easier for me to get the water in, b/c I will be doing something!!

My 3rd fill seems to be ok so far. Does anyone have tight restriction? I am wondering how long I should wait to see if this one took?

Hi Crabcake,

Good weight loss. I'm turning 53 this year and had surgery on May 29th My weightloss has been extremely slow only 5# since surgery and no fill yet. I'm scheduled for Tuesday. If you don't mind can you answer a question for me? I have a 4cc band and was wondering how many cc did you get in your first fill? and did it help with restriction. I'm hoping my fill will help.

Thanks, Sheila

Hello Sheila! I too have a 4cc band. I only received .5 cc's on the first fill as I still had lots of restriction then. Two weeks after that though I went back and had .25 cc's removed. I was having a really hard time eating anything and I pb'd a lot. Then two weeks after that, which was my scheduled #2 fill date, I went back in and had it replaced! The funny thing is, I don't feel restricted at all now! I can eat anything and lots of it!

I hope your fill goes well. Have you been to the over 50 forum? If not, come on over, there's lots of us! Here's the link:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
