had my initial consult today with my surgeon and felt amazing!!! He said we can have this process done in 6-8 weeks :) eeeeekkkk thats with me paying 20% if I choose to let my secondary insurance pay the 20% it's going to take an additional 6 months Im a bit torn if waiting is the right decision or staying on the fast track... has anyone else had to make this decision???

Hi no I didn't have to make this choice my insurance required a 6 month weight management and it has now been 8 months and i was just approved 100 percent today and I am awaiting a surgery date. I have learned valuable information during this time, I have learned my triggers as well as how to eat properly as well as loose weight . Unless you can afford to pay the 20 percent out of pocket I would do the 6 months waiting period because you can learn alot about eating healthy. I would encourage you to start a journal because it has help me see that I was over eating to deal with stress and emotional issues. Good luck and congrats on being healthy.

My insurance doesn't require the 6 month diet, but the surgeon was glad about that he likes to keep people on the fast track. I have to lose 16 pounds before surgery. I started my new diet which consists of two Protein Shakes and one meal a day. Also known as liver shrink diet. I started it Monday and have already lost 7 pounds.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
