Phase 1 clear liquids only or are purée soups ok?

Recommended Posts

What does your Drs orders say? Clear Liquids, liquids or purees for the first phase? When do they recommend moving to the next stage? Don't be too quick to move through the stages. Remember, you just had 85% of your stomach removed.

Thanks Pdx guy he said liquids ( I assumed clear because that's what I started on in the hospital) I keep reading recipe's etc that suggest a broader definition of clear. For example chicken broth to egg drop Soup. Egg drop has bits of egg but is clear and mostly liquid....

I did clear liquids for 1 week and then I'm on liquids (anything you can pour from one cup to another, strained to remove chunks) for week 2-3. Then purée for week 4. Then soft food (fish, etc) week 5. Solids week 6.

My doctor gave me an exact list of what could be "eaten" on each day following surgery..... Up to four weeks post-op. I know each doctor is different, so there's no use for me to post that, but I can't find it anyway!!!!!! LOL

BEST WISHES

Yes, I agree with Healthynewme. My surgeon's office gave me exact list of what to have. As far as Clear Liquids, it said anything that you can see thru, so prune juice or Tomato h\juice would not be clear. Best wishe, hang in there, you can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
