So excited I got my approval for the sleeve after about 2 weeks of waiting. My surgery date is April 8th. I was wondering if anyone else has been approved by them recently and how much over all out of pocket expense you had?

Congratulations first and can't wait to see your progress!!! I have BCBS TX Fed but if it's all the same I spent $300. $150 to the surgeon and $150 to hospital for 1 night stay at the hospital

Congrats to you! Didn't it feel amazing when you were notified. I wanted to tell it from the roof top.

Cbwalker....you sound, weight wise, about where I am. I am so nervous that bcbs mo won't cover surgery but you just gave me some hope. I sooooo hope they pay, otherwise I have to save and go to Mexico.

All bcbs plans are different depending on your state and specific benefit plan. If you go to your plans web site, some of them have a coinsurance predictor that will give you an idea of what your share will be. I have anthem bcbs of ca and they have it. You will need the procedure code for the surgery you are planning.

They took about 4 or 5 days for approval.

Lmcagain.... I never gave up. It was a 3 month process to get bcbs to approve me but I never gave up and they finally approved me. I was worried that I wouldn't get approve but never stop trying... If you get denied, just know you have rights. Mine was a technicality and was a minor issue but it was fixed by me writing a letter and I was instantly approved

My total wait time after my paperwork was submitted was a little over a week to be approved. I had my surgery on 4-8-14 and was released from the hospital today. I paid my 1,000 deductible and then I had to pay 135.00 down to the anesthesiologist then $200.00 down for the hospital. I paid $238.40 to my surgeon and whatever is owed they will bill me for. I was told the most I could be charged after my deductible was 3,000. So I will keep y'all updated as the bills come in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
