Did anyone stay at the hospital for over 3 days after the operation?

Recommended Posts

I thought the usual duration of staying in the hospital is one to two days; but my doctor just told me a minimum of three days and up to five.

Five seems long based on what people have posted here...,my sister was in the hospital for three days because she wasn't getting enough fluids in (the kept giving her vegetable broth as opposed to chicken and she just couldn't stomach it!!) so they kept her one extra day

5 days here, but only because I had a VO2 issue. I also had a "going" issue and they wouldn't let me go until I could prove self responsibility in this area. If there were no issues, I should have gone home afternoon of the next day after surgery.

I was there four days because of fluids...everyone is different... you may be released in 3, but he wants you to prepare for a possible 5... good luck!

I stayed 2 days and 2 nites (the average for my dr). I was in a lot of pain so my dr offered 1 more nite but I just wanted to get home so I refused it.

3 days sounds good but 5 like alot for a average stay. Good luck with ur surgery!

Sounds like it varies a lot... I stayed one night. Was released after lunch the day after surgery.

I will be staying 4 nights (5days), that is standard with my doctor. I am happy with that.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
