Is there an eating schedule?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...I need some guidance please. Today, I'm 5 days post-op and doing fairly well. My doctor allows puréed food starting on Day 3 and I'll continue this until Day 14.

According to the instructions, I have to get in 64oz of fluids and 30-50g of Protein supplements in addition to the 1-2oz of puréed high Protein food (tuna, ground chicken, eggs, fish, cottage cheese, etc.).

This morning I think I did a no-no. I woke up and drank about 4oz of Decaf hot tea. I sipped my way through it and definitely had that "full" feeling, so I stopped. About an hour and a half later I made myself a scrambled egg. I'm trying to take a minute between each bite and managed about 4 bites before I felt really full. It's about an hour later and I'm still feeling sick and over-full.

I'm thinking I should not have started out with the tea this morning as it made me too full to eat, but I'm not sure. Can someone share with me a schedule of when they ate and drank that worked for them at this stage? I can't seem to figure out when to eat and drink, but I know you're not supposed to do it at the same time. Plus, when do you drink your Protein shakes?

Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Signed,

Feeling Full in Florida :)

To be honest, I didn't start eating eggs until the beginning of my 3rd week after surgery. It sounds like you did fine with the tea, but in the morning you might try something softer than an egg. 1/4 of cottage cheese or yogurt would probably work out a lot better. 5 days after surgery, I relied almost totally on Protein shakes. Getting in a quarter cup of food was very difficult. Your stomach is still swollen, so the fact that you got in 4 bites of an egg is impressive, but I can see why you feel over-full.

Good luck!

About 15mins liquid is done so a hour and half later is more than enough time for it to flush out.
Egg and i don’t get on so I can’t tell you how it feels to eat eggs but everything you eat at the start feels tight and full and like your stuffed to the brim for a very very long time.

I started puréed today. I'm 2 weeks out. Just had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.... I swear cottage cheese never tasted so delicious lol

I'm 3 weeks out and I'm on pureed/full liquids. I can't stomach the Protein Drinks. I have even tried the natural unflavored powder, it leaves a nasty after taste and I about get sick, the only thing that I can get down right now is yoplat blended coconut yogurt. Even Water gives me the uneasy feeling, is this normal to only steer in one direction of foods? My other to go to is Jello but that has no Protein.< /p>

I was on the schedule and on the first day of the puréed stage I tried scrambled eggs, I felt the same way, after about 2 1/2 bites I was full bad felt like that for a couple hours. Now 7 weeks sometimes I still feel like that if I eat too much but I'm learning to stop before it gets to that point. My dr and nut both said stop drinking 1/2 hr before eating and not to drink for 1/2 hr after eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
