Hi Earnest! I'm 2 days post op, actually had a better day yesterday don't know why. I got in all my Protein and almost all my fluids today so feeling good about that. Still having a pain in the middle of my back, but not using any pain meds. Did you have pain there?

Is anyone else having trouble getting enough Protein? The Dr made it clear how important it is but I feel like I'm constantly eating. It is so strange not feeling like I need to go grab a snack.< /p>

I'm the same day as Sizz. I didn't make Protein or fluid goals yesterday. Today is looking better. Took pain med yesterday twice. Trying not take anything but still a lot of right sided pain with movement and coughing. I'm coughing up gunk today. Hurts like hell to cough. If I sit still, I'm ok. I'm waiting til next week but I can't wait to eat puréed. Never in a million years would I have thought those words would come out of my mouth!

Janey

The coughing is miserable. The nurse had me hold a pillow to my stomach each time I cough and that helped a little. I don't think I've met my Protein and fluid goals once. I did figure out that the pain in my chest everytime I took a drink was because I was taking pre-surgery size gulps. Each day is better and I hope it works that way for you too. Don't be afraid to use your pain mess. They can make things easier.

Small sips help. It's a little better today. I'm starting to feel something like hunger. Going to go make Unjury chicken. I really want Tomato but I'm trying to get Protein too. Thanks all for words of support!

I have met goals for Protein but not liquid. Now I'm worried that I've tried to take in too much too soon so I'm starting to sip again. I sure don't want to do any damage. I think they gave me a week or more to meet goals, maybe because of the swelling. I still have a gnawing dull pain mid back. But it comes and goes.

Oh also I walked around the grocery store and I found some Soups. My fav was leek and potato. It was real thin and so tasty. Unfortunately I bought some other things that don't really work because of sugar like sherbet. Oh well.

I got some sugar free popsickles and they are yummy. I over did yesterday. I had asked a lawn maintenance guy to stop by and give me a quote and I did too much outside. Wiped me out so I'm taking it easy today. I had asked for two weeks off but then found out my district requires 3 business days between the day you are released and when they allow you to come back to work.

I have to take three weeks, which I don't want to do. I'd like to save my sick leave. My follow-up appointment is on Wed, 2.5 weeks after surgery and I have to wait an additional 3 business days after that. I'm just unhappy I have to use another weeks leave. It is probably in my best interest to wait though, I tend to ignore doctor's orders so this time I'm pretty stuck taking the time off.

I'm doing pretty good! I had some pain, left side back that messed with my mind through day 7. Had my post op and doc said to try Advil, it worked! I don't seem to have that pain anymore. It also felt like a throb but I'm ok now. I must have bought 10 different items to flavor Water but can't stand the taste of any of them. The one I love I bought at the docs office and it has 15 gms Protein so that helps. It's kind if fruity and creamy.

Good luck tomorrow! I remember waking up from surgery and crying bc I was in a lot of pain but the meds will help and it gets better each day. The gas is more irritating than the surgery but it only lasts a few days so that's a good thing. Just take it easy and you will be good.

Thanks Henna! Monday will be two weeks out and today is the first day I felt awful. We had gone shopping and I suddenly got warm and very tired. I think I was just doing too much. Overall I have felt good and seldom use pain meds. My follow-up appt. is next Wednesday and I 'm looking forward to getting back to work. Thanks for your support.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
