i am trying to get back into nursing because i have taken some time off. i am a neonatal nurse.

I guess TC Thompson is the only game in town for you or in the neonatologists office. That is pretty highly specialized. How long did you work in neonatal? Of course you could probably move pretty easily into Peds ICU or PACU.

I am struggling with whether or not to continue on with my masters in nursing. I have a lot of miles on me with only two years nursing experience and just didn't have the motivation last semester that took me through AS and BSN programs. I took this year off school but found myself doing clinical lab assistant work part time and that is all good, lol! Might stay in the program but change my major, who knows?

In the meantime, I am pretty much stuck on IMCU at Erlanger. Some nights I love it and some nights I want to run with my tail tucked between my legs back to Social Work, which I did for almost 30 years. I got into nursing because I wanted to become a nurse practioner, but just made it to grad school and "BAM!" no interest. I think a lot of it may be because of the problem I had loosing my band then gaining wt. It really caused me some depression.

Lots of nurses on this board but so many of us have weight issues. We see the worst effects of the disease daily in my unit at least. I hoped to use that to help me control my eating, but I don't know that it does.

Good luck on your job search.

there are also NICUs or special care nurseries at East Ridge, Hutcheson, and Erlanger East. I had about 1 1/2 years experience at Erlanger's NICU.

Are you going for FNP? I want to get my master's but not exactly sure what yet: maybe Neonatal CNS.

I didn't realize they had NICUs anywhere but TCT. Yes I am working on NP, that was my whole reason for becoming a nurse but now am sort of at a stand still. I am just not sure I want to go on with it. My family would all love for me to just stop going to school. I am just not sure that physically I can hold out to do the heavy duty floor work till retirement, and wonder if I should not continue on even if I no longer have the burning desire.

i had a fill yesterday. super long wait: 2 hours. hoping i feel some restriction in the next few days. i am still at around the same weight i was in june. at least i havent gained much (maybe a couple of pounds) in that time. it is frustrating. i asked if they thought i would start losing again soon and they said they were trying to protect my band which i obviously want but weight loss would be nice too.

not sure i am going to hit my 100 lbs in a year goal but hopefully it will pick up again soon. to make it worse there were all kinds of people at the office talking about how much weight they had lost and i felt like i had a big FAIL stamped on my head. :frown: oh well. they do say that they dont feel like this slip will effect my long term success so that is good.

You have not failed. Don't even think that way. You are doing a wonderful job, and your weightloss will pick up again.

Dang Punkster! You are already ahead of the numbers. You have lost what almost two lbs a week average. I am feeling sorta slow about my loss after I had been to goal before loosing my band. I am now 219 which is no loss at all since rebanding, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most important thing for me is to keep my band and not to gain anymore. I really want to get back to goal but even if I don't, if I just continue to maintain, I will be far better off than I will be if I loose another band to a slip. Banding is a long way from a perfect science. It sounds to me as if you are doing incredible and you are getting excellent care. You sure have no reason to feel like a failure.

We have our first test tomorrow. I feel like I know the material, but the way they ask the questions is what I'm worried about. All the stress is making my band tighter, but I guess that's a good thing because I haven't been feeling a lot of restriction lately.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
