Just started my pre op liquid diet Feb. 23rd and I have my surgery this Monday (3/3). My thing is that this diet makes me want to die. It's a 600 cal diet and I feel like the diet along with the stress of my surgery has made me panic. Honestly I cheated today, but not before laying in bed for 4 hours thinking about food. I got 4 days left, and I know "if you can stay with the diet what makes you think you can handle after surgery?" I'm gonna start over tomorrow and make sure that I can't cheat anymore. (Basically sequestering myself).

I guess what I'm saying is, has anyone else have had this problem? I'm just really worried, I worked really hard getting all my clearances and against the resistance of my pcp. I feel like an addict, thinking I'm never going to eat what I like ever again. Words of encouragement are welcomed :)

Hello

I have been on preop diet since last Thursday and this has been the longest week of my life. I go to bed thinking about it and wake up thinking about it. I have lost 10 in 7 days...surgery is 3/6.

Try some hot beef bullion broth...make sure you get Water in and try to stay busy....and think....about how much better we will feel month after month.

If you try almond milk 30 calories in the shakes they are much better.

It's kinda like my life has become obsessed with this diet and losing weight and I guess that is what it's meant to do.

We are all here for support and I have read so many blogs...watched so many videos and seen so many before and after pics....I'm so encouraged and excited at the end result.....I keep calculating if I lose this every week I will be this weight by this date....wow what an emotional roller coaster

Good luck....

Kim

Thanks :) like I said I'm basically starting over tomorrow, so I guess it's a day by day thing.

I feel you. It's really hard. I haven't had the cravings too bad but I just feel like crap. It does make me constantly question if this is what I want. My arms feel so weak. Today was my last day of work though so I'm hoping I'll be able to rest a few days before my surgery, on Tuesday and I'll fell better.

The first day at work on the diet I almost fell out (nausea, shakiness, weakness). Part of me is like "stick to the diet exactly" and the other half is like "I don't want to die".

I too feel your pain. This is my 3rd day on all liquids and all I can think about is food! I have been fixating on a cheeseburger since last night. Everytime I think of it, I drink broth. Or drink a tall glass of Water. I'm struggling, but I know what it's about in the end...

Hang in there!

I am on day 13 of the Optifast liquid diet. I have to be on it for 4 wks. My surgery is April 22nd. My first 3 days were hard but I stuck it out. Today day 13 I'm a prostar!! Once I hit ketosis my hunger was gone and I can honestly say I don't feel hungry at all. It is a big mind game and you just have to get your head around that. Stay the course you got this. We are all here for you :-) Val

I'm currently 1 month past surgery, and lost 50lbs. That pre op diet was probably the worst though. Thanks for the help tho anyone have any questions feel free to ask.

Yay! I thought the pre-op diet was the hardest thing ever and honestly, too extreme.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
