2 week post op "blip"

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am now 2 weeks out from surgery and have consistantly been losing, but it all stopped 3 days ago. I've read a few posts on the forum and this seems to be something that everybody goes through up some point in time or another, but I'm just wondering why exactly does this happen?

I have lost almost 30 pounds since starting my 10 day pre-op diet so I'm definitely not complaining and I know that my weight loss will continue but it seems funny to me that the last 3 days when I started incorporating exercise back into my life that my weight loss stopped.

I would love to hear what your experiences been with these little "blips" & what did you do to help you get through those periods?

Thanks!!

Your body goes through a period of adjustment as it has just gone through a major trauma that affects not only fat, but all the hormones in the gut. Someone (I hope) will post the article about why this happens. I'm not sure where to find it...just know that what your experiencing is TOTALLY NORMAL!

Keep your exercise minimal for now--you need to move, and sweat is good, BUT when you exercise more, you need more calories. And you are only a couple of weeks out, so keep it reasonable. Walking for 30 minutes is what a lot of people do.

I get over the blips by waiting 1-2 weeks to weigh myself. I don't own a scale, so I go to the bariatric center every once in a while, same time of day each time, wearing the same clothes each time, and I weigh myself. I don't notice stalls that way, and I don't drive myself crazy with the "jump on the scale, jump off the scale, jump on the scale" mentality.

Breathe easy--this too shall pass! :)

Well, I found out something that I can't believe I didn't know. Do you weigh yourself at home? Because I found out last month that I was not supposed to. I stopped and have continued losing. It's not like the first month of course, but still pretty good. Some vets at my support group said that when they weighed themselves even once a week, they would get onto these plateaus where they wouldn't lose for months. They started only weighing in at their appointments and never had another one.

It's psychological I guess, because when you are weighing yourself or measuring yourself even, you tend to focus on your successes and failures, both of which can get in the way. I was told you can get complacent if you see yourself doing well, or you can get frustrated if you stay the same or don't lose. So it just affects people emotionally which does make a difference. Not something I'd ever thought of before.

Check out Butterthebean's profile. He has posted a link to an article about "the why" in his signature line. Very informative.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
