April 2014 pre-op group

Recommended Posts

The pre op diet does vary with surgeon but I did hear it is to shrink the liver to get to the stomach. Mine is 7 days of Protein Drinks and Clear Liquids the day before surgery. I'm sure there is not just one way to shrink the liver.

I am April 7th and on 3 week pre-diet.

Breakfast: Protein Shake

Lunch: salad with 6oz lean Protein

Dinner: protein shake

Snacks: pear or apple

I have been losing almost .5 pound a day on this but its only been 6 days so far and I cant imagine being on liquid only.

I am hoping my surgery will be the middle of April. I was submitted to insurance today. Hoping to have an answer by Monday. Then the mayo will schedule, hopefully two weeks from then. May is my second busiest month at work so I really need to be back at work by then. Just crossing my fingers for approval and a quick schedule.

I'm having the bypass too. I was thinking of doing the liquid diet on my own.

My date is April 10! This Thursday I am to start my 2 preop diet of 1000 calories.. Already started this week to prep. I think my next week (last week) pre surgery I'm going to try the liquid diet to get used to only liquids as will need to too afterwards... What are some good things everyone is trying for their liquid diets -pre and post op?!

I am gojng to do that gixxie. I have no preop diet, but I have been so bad these past 4 weeks once I get my date I am buckling back down and liquid dieting, tracking everything going in and as of Monday I will be walking to work each day so I will get exercise too, oh and I also have to start walking the dog once a day as my husband will have to do it twice a day. New life starts on Saturday for my husband and I as we are moving to a new place.

Add me to the group! My surgery is April 7 and I'm on day 3 of two-week Clear Liquids. Excited but a bit scared as well.

I realized today that from this point on my relationship with food has changed. I'll never eat the same way again. Exciting but scary too!

That's good that you have a real plan. I've been thinking about how I'm going to get my Walking and resistance training done.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
