Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 1/14. I cannot eat more than 3-4 small bites of anything, then I have a very uncomfortable pressure feeling. Now I get nauseated when I eat anything. Protein Shakes go right thru me. At this point I am just trying to keep fluids in me by sipping all day long. I feel like I am starving myself because I am getting no nutrition yet, I am not hungry. I find it hard to try to eat anything because I don't want the uncomfortable feeling or the nausea. I've tried calling the surgeons office but have received no response phone call yet.

This doesn't sound normal. You might need to push your surgeons office to get in to see them. I think the pressure after a few bites is normal, but not the nausea. Not that far out.

Did you follow the diet? strained liquids for 1 or 2 weeks, then purees, then mushies... our stomach is still very much swollen and healing.so we have to give it time to heal.

The first time i tried scrambled eggs I felt nausea. So I have not had it again. the sleeve dislikes many foods now.

It is normal to eat only few bites.

I am sure your doctor will guide you.You can go back to Clear Liquids for 1 day.

Hopeful - yes I have followed the diet strictly. I have not had nausea the WHOLE time, but am now battling it every time I eat. I am only eating soft foods, but my stomach does not seem to like any of it. I actually stayed on the full liquids longer than the program because I felt as though I needed to. eggs work, toast does not. Then eggs make me nauseated the next time. Now anytime I eat anything, I get very nauseated. I struggle every time.

i dont think toast is a good choice. we have to avoid bread. and we need only soft foods.

Sorry you are going thru all this...it is depressing I know. I have got a headache due to dehydration. How depressing...I was trying to get in soft foods every few hrs and neglected my liquids...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
