I drank copious amounts of Decaf green tea!!!!! Also, drink lots of Water to keep the hunger at bay.

The first few days are going to suck - I think I started feeling better around day 4 and human on day 5. Knowing that will help - it's going to be hard at first, then you get used to it. This is a means to an end.

You're going to do great!

What McButterpants said. Drink lots of calorie free liquids and Water.

I felt horrible the first 4 days from detoxing from carbs and caffeine and just from general hunger. But on the 5th day I woke up feeling much better. Your huger will eventually go away.

I don't know how strict your surgeon is, but if things become REALLY unbearable, ask your doctor if you can have an extra Protein drink or a couple of cups of green veggies. I was dizzy and lightheaded the first day and my surgeon agreed to let me have green veggies in addition to the shakes.

You can do this! :)

It can really suck. Getting through it is the best thing I can say about it.

This is a price to pay to get healthy and less fat.

Sorry, it can just plain suck - no way to sugar coat that.

it's actually going to be easier than you think. I was TOTALLY worried about the pre-op liquid diet! I am on day 12 now and am doing fine. At this point I actully find it easier than eating. I am not htinking about what I should or shouldnt eat - becuase I'm not eating! The shakes really do fill you up. My only adivce would be to try a bunch of differnt types of shakes. It took me a few days to figure out what shake I liked best.

GOOD LUCK! You can do it!

It was a LOT easier than I anticipated. I did not feel dizzy or lack of energy. I actually felt great. Mentally I would tell myself a couple of things: 1) my body is getting all the nutrition it needs, so no need to be nervous, 2) a successful pre-op diet equals a safer surgery and quicker recuperation. Remind yourself of that if you feel like cheating. But honestly, you will be fine. (in the interest of full disclosure, the toughest part for me was the first week post op - having Clear Liquids only).

These are a lifesaver.

Yes! Go get those broths. They are flavorful and very fulfilling!

Do you find that they are spicy? I'm pre-op still, and LOVE spicy, but I'm afraid of spicy with the sleeve.

They are. I had to cut it with regular broth.

Buy one to try before and hold on to it for post-op. I love spicy and did need to cut if with plain broth. I'm not sure I would call it "spicy" so much as its "aromatic." If that makes sense.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
