Eating makes me miserable.

Recommended Posts

I look forward to eating because I'm hungry and then I get like 3 bites in and I'm so uncomfortable. I wish I could just skip it and go on with my day but I need to get the Protein in to heal its really making me miserable. It eases up after about a half an hour but then even getting liquids and after that feels yucky. Any suggestions? Oh and I was sleeved on January 27th.

It will get better...I promise...In the beginning it is so hard..I could only do a few bites of anything..I ate bites of egg salad made with real mayo..mashed potatoes, tuna salad all made soupy, yogurt...I did drink warm broth..It was the worse trying to get Protein Drinks in..I couldn't handle the smell or the taste,I had to hold my nose.. I loved them before surgery & now I love them again but the 1st month, no way! My energy level was so low & I got depressed and questioned why did I do this..but after a month everything started to make me feel better & better..Now I can eat anything...Good Luck but you'll be just fine..

Yep, it gets better. It really sucks the first few months. The further out you are, the easier it is to eat, which is good and bad news :)

Try taking smaller bites and more time between bites - that may help with the uncomfortable feeling.

It will get better. I promise!

Hi I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and since I started week 3 I have been in a lot of burning pain after I eat 2 small bites... I have been on liquids because I'm afraid of eating... Dr send me to get a c scan and I'm drinking the contrast right now ... He thinks is an ulcer but have been taking carafate to coat the stomach and that does not help... If the pain continues get that checked out :)

I am 2 weeks out and had the same problem, pain when eating even after tiny amounts. Take smaller bites and sips it's an all day challenge. But it is getting better.

Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
