Ryn2bethin, I've lost lots of inches but I'm at a loss at how that works. Still the same weight but smaller clothes... How does that happen???

Hi,

I think that "melting downwards" is so common. It leaves us with a bigger abdominal area. I know that Janette has that, and I certainly do. 6 miles a day is so unrealistic for anyone, let alone someone with your responsibilities. It is so unrealistic. I am seeing a personal trainer for sitting down toning exercises but apart from that I can do no exercise. We are all different. Advice like tat just sets you up to fail and makes you feel bad about yourself. Perhaps just concentrate on those inches lost (which is wonderful), how you look now and the non scale advantages, the exercise that you are doing (which is considerable) rather than what the scales say.

Take care Tammy and you carry on talking on here.

Claire

Hi Tammy - I just wanted to let you know that we are still running parallel to each other - I too have "only" lost 90 lbs. The differences is that I'm delighted with that loss - yes it's slow but we're still moving in the right direction. What is more important to me is all the things I can do now that I couldn't do before - I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and back with my husband last weekend - couldn't have done that last year ☺

I also "only" walk 1-2 miles a day. At my speed (2 - 2.5 miles per hour) a 6 mile walk would take 2 ½ to 3 hours - no one has that amount of time every day! You'd have to be someone who was doing nothing but working on yourself - crazy. Ask your doctor if he/she has 3 hours free every day. I certainly don’t.

I also still have my "apple" shape - I don't think that will ever change - I'm resigned to the idea that I'll never have a flat belly. As Claire says, we're melting downwards - I'm excited to fit size 18 pants now but it's always the waist measurement I have to watch.

Don't get discouraged - you're doing fine. Your "job" taking care of 3 invalids is a lot – both physically and emotionally - and possibly not very rewarding. Try not to let those negative feelings about yourself creep back in – you’re doing fantastic. Hey, you’re doing as well as me so I have to say that ☺

I think you're doing great Tammy, as well as all you other losers too lol :)

I too am a slower loser, I'm at 75-80 lbs lost now, was really hoping to lose a little faster but at least I'm still losing right. Jealous Jenny came out a little bit today at work when my coworker who also had sleeve in April or May is struttin her slim self around. She's lost def more than me in a shorter amount of time, with no exercising at all. I'm very happy for her success, she's a total sweetheart but dang it if I'm not just a lil bit jealous of her speed lol. I know we all lose at different paces, but once in awhile I get bummed :-)

It is what it is and I'll keep hitting the gym trying to whittle my sexiness into a size 12 by thanksgiving.

Hi,

Misst you are looking absolutely great, such a difference.

Millergirl, as you say we are all different. Have you got any pictures? I am sure that you look really good and it would be good to see some pictures. Maybe it isn't about the weight so much as how you look and the non scale advantages. I am sure that you look great and have plenty of those wonderful NSAs.

Thanks for sharing how you are feeling and how you look.

Claire

I definitely agree clairec I try not to bother too much with the scale anymore because I was seeing more a different in my clothes a pose to the numbers dropping on the scale . my nurse said to stay away from the scale for a couple weeks at a time at least then it's not such a huge disappointment to see the numbers not moving .

and thank you

Hi,

Great news. More pictures and more NSAs would be good to see and hear when we all get a little discouraged. We might all start slowing down or stopping losing weight in the coming months and we need to support each other through this and widen our views of the tremendous changes we have made, and are still making in our lives. We should Celebrate together, because we are phenomenal and such a support to each other.

So I will start with a couple of personal NSAs...

I can cross my legs!!!! That is really important because by taking the pressure off my lower spine it reduces my back pain on hard chairs. I have never been able to cross my legs.

I have a small gogo scooter which would not have been possible at my old weight. It gives me amazing independence and I dash around all over the place when we are out. Being pushed in a wheelchair is very limiting. When we were on holiday in the States I was dashing ahead of my mother and Alan, and I went into a park and circled the fountain three times, just because I could!

Who else has some NSAs to share? I will try to find a before picture and also post something more recent, but I just haven't really got any. Janette keeps telling me to change my picture on here, because my face looks so different and I really must.

Take care

Claire

Congratulations MissT - you look fantastic - what a difference! I will try to post a before and after picture soon.

Millergirl - keep it up - you're doing great. I agree - it's hard when other people are losing faster than you are - but I just try to think of all the things I can do now that I couldn't do a year ago - walking around New York City for 6 hours; being able to cross my legs; discovering I actually have a lap; fitting easily in theatre and airplane seats (and no extension) etc. We went to a concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC last weekend - found our seats were in the middle of the row and everyone else was already seated. They all stood up and one man said "You're thin enough to slide past" WHAT? :)

NSA.. there are soooo many now..but my favorite this week is that I will be able to run in my 1st 5k race. Besides getting healthy this was a goal I set for my self before I had surgery. I can't wait until Saturday Nov 1 to finally achieve this. I'm not looking for first place..just want to fully run and finish it.

Hi,

Wow Janette, thin enough to slide past, how wonderful! I am not sure about NSA or NSV, but I thought if A stood for Advantage, then it should be A.

I have posted two new pictures from today, and two from the day before my surgery. I can't quite believe it myself, I don't seem recognisable even to me.

Take care

Claire

Wow what a transformation! Great work girl :) that makes sense about A for Advantage, lol I saw it and the first thing that came to my mind was "no strings attached " I'm a dork, it's ok.

I do have a cool NSV to add: when I shave my armpits now it's more difficult because they're sunken in to my body now lol. I just have to shave them differently now I guess.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
