Feb 11 surgery...nervous and excited! Buddies?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am getting my sleeve Feb 11 at 9 am! I have been lurking here for months, and I have learned so much! I want to say thanks to everyone for sharing and being so open and honest. I was hoping to reach out to someone who has a similar surgery date, or anyone who maybe wants to keep in touch and support each other in what seems to be a potentially difficult first few weeks. I am so proud to be able to soon sit on the loser's bench...

Side question: I have a runny nose, itchy throat, no cough or fever. It came on Friday night and doesn't seem to be getting worse. Mucus is clear (sorry if TMI)...they wouldn't cancel for this, do you think!

Thanks for reading!

I am the 11th as well. Isn't the roller coaster of emotions fun right now? :)

I would love to be able to network with others sharing the same trip around the same time. I won't know what time the surgery is until tomorrow afternoon.

What a small world! I love Dr Svendsen, he seems so sincere and I think he really does this because he cares. He has a ton of experience, too, I think over 2000 surgeries...Maybe I'll see you...lol

Do you think they room us in a special ward with other bariatric pts? Who knows, we could be roomies :)

Yeah, I'm totally up and down...esp. since my hubby doesn't understand why I'm doing it...he says I'm perfect and I think he means well...but we all know 140+ lbs overweight ain't perfect! So, everytime I think I'm calm, he comes in the room like, "Are you SURE you wanna do this? You don't HAVE to do this...I'll give you money not to." (Okay, that came out weird but I swear it wasn't as creepy when he said it.)

I think I need to log off for a while, but I can't! A last minute question pops up and I search the forums and before you know it, I'm caught in the matrix again! :)

ETA- Please keep me posted on surgery time...if I can manage my laptop or kindle post op, I'll be checkin on you all!

I think loved ones aren't always sure how to be supportive even though they want the best for you, also I think they get a little scared about their sweetie going through something pretty major. He'll see why this was worth it to you when you're feeling great and healthy and modeling new clothes for him. :)

I've got a bit of sniffles still myself so hope that won't be really bothersome, but I'm not turning back now. While the nerves are there I think I'm getting more excited as the time goes by. In by 6:30am so plan on being in recovery by this time tomorrow (like I'm controlling it or something, LOL).

A grand new adventure for us all.

I'm actually looking forward to the Protein based liquids when I get home since the clear non-protein liquids are getting a bit old though I'm getting plenty of exercise running to tinkle constantly.

Thinking good thoughts for everyone, the 2/10's already on their way and the 2/11's right behind. I look forward to reading about the journeys.

I am mentally and physically tired, and it's almost time for me to get in the shower...

My husband is being the hugest a*****e, so much so that I don't have anyone to go to the hospital with me. I don't think they will let you check in alone. I had to drive to Wisconsin last night to go get my mom. I hate this.

I am so nervous and scared, and now alone. I seriously am reconsidering being married now, what's the point of being with someone so hateful?

I could lay down and go back to sleep...but I won't. I am crying right now because this is a shitty time/way to find out he's not in love with you anymore. Even so, does he have to be so mean?,,,

I'll be in the OR soon. TTYL.

Had surgery yesterday and it went way better than I expected. Only complaint is nausea from the anesthesia. Pain is a level 4 not even using the PCA pump. Hope everybody has the same results. Just started having stomach spasms but only when I sip Water. I'm up and walking with no issues.

Had surgery Feb 11th I am still in the hospital. I am having issues with h pylori bacteria and I can't keep anything down without nausea and slimeing...not in a ton of pain, though. PUSH FOR THOSE GAS DROPS/strips and walk walk walk or these gassies will kick your heiney....

My surgeon has seen me twice and he's awesome. He said my liver and stomach looked so great that he was able to remove 90% of my tummy.

It's going better than I expected. For such a major surgery I would've expected to be in much worse shape.

I'm so glad you checked in. It was sad you had to go through things right before that you shouldn't have to deal with. Congrats on getting through and hope you get home today.

Aren't the hiccups fun? LOL I had those like crazy day 2 and a bit on day 3 so maybe that's a sign they're temporary. Yesterday it was feeling like I needed to burp and couldn't.

I'm happy to see you had a great medical crew. They help make the strange things more managable.

Best wishes to you and please keep writing with us.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
