I had my upper gi today and seriously wanted to die. 2 giant cups of a paste like substance. Ugh nauseous just thinking about it! All I thought about was how much better I'll feel after the surgery. That's what got me through. Had an abdominal us and chest X-ray too. Those were the easy ones. Cardiac dr. next Monday then pulmonologist. Definitely getting there!

Upper gi has been the worst so far. Ick!! The barium was horrible, I gagged after every sip and had an upset stomach for 2 days.

What I did learn is apparently I have a narrow esophagus that makes my gag reflex very sensitive.

Seems like our doctors will order any test the insurance will pay for!

I have a friend who had hers done in dec and had to have an EKG and blood work. That's it! She's kind of surprised by what I need to go through.

I just had my Upper GI this past Thursday. I felt awful the whole day, felt a little better the next day. I'm not looking forward to the sleep study. I had one 5 years ago, I only slept for 2 hours. lol. Hopefully the rest of your tests go well. I have my pulmonary appt this Thursday and then I can set up the sleep study and I have 2 more visits with my primary for dieting supervision (insurance requirement). One step at a time!! :) Good Luck!!

Oh and I already knew I have GERD. The Radiologist kept telling me to swallow over and over again, all the while she kept standing the bed up more until she actually seen it reflux up my esophagus.. weird.

I have my endoscopy next Wednesday and I'm feeling really nervous about it. I did the sleep study and that wasn't bad at all....not like being put under and having a camera snaked down your throat!! Anybody have any info. on the endoscopy that will put me at ease?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
