Hi girls,

Im getting my surgery on the 26th of this month in sydney. Ive been on the liver shrink diet for three days and im getting excited about my surgery, i havent cheated yet. i have good willpower- i gave up smoking after fifteen years cold turkey so im confident ill do well.Im 173cm tall and i weigh 112 kilos. I packed it on after giving up smokes almost two years ago. I was only 87 kilos when i gave birth to my daughter four years ago so tipping the scales at triple digits makes me cry. Im keen to find out how much weight you both have lost in the first few weeks and if you have any advice id love to hear it.

Hey Nadasmum! Welcome! Glad your feeling strong about the willpower! It's exciting in the lead up to surgery! What date is your surgery? Im exactly 2 weeks out today from mine and feeling good! Still a little sore if I over do it but driving, shopping, walking, etc no probs! Re packing for hospital - I took so much stuff I didn't need! The best thing I took was an audiobook on my iPod!! Good for when you aren't sleeping but not feeling great post surgery. I had a slight reaction to the pain meds post op so was a little sick the day after/following day so the audio book was great to just tune out to. Other things that were suggested to me were eye mask and ear plugs to escape night time Hosp noise (esp if you're public as I was). I didn't use mine but prol should have pulled them out at one stage. The other tip I'd have is that I didn't realise one of the sites was just below bra line ( think in between your boosies) so a bra wasn't awesome but I had tanks with shelf bras which have been great.

Re weightloss: between the two week pre-op and one week post op I was down just over 10kgs. Haven't been on the scales yet his week but I can defs feel it in my clothes.

Any more questions - let me know!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
