10 months out and stuck in a rut

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I feel like I haven't even had surgery. I had surgery last March. I have gained a few pounds in the past couple of months because I can't seem to get myself back into an exercising routine and my eating has been crap. I feel lost. Like I'm not sure what to do even though I know all the basics and stuff. Has anyone else gone through this and gotten out of it? I've lost 88lbs (was at -92lbs) and I still have another 20-30 to go. I just feel so stuck. I guess I'm just trying to make sure I'm not alone in this. I don't look at the Facebook groups I am a part of much any more because it makes me depressed to see everyone else's success stories that it never seems like they have any issues. I did c25k in the fall and got to where I could run for 30 minutes straight but then we went through a move and holidays, etc and I haven't exercised at all since November. I feel horrible but I can't seem to pull myself away from making bad decisions. Anyway. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

So sorry to hear you are struggling. I am very new to this journey (was just sleeved a week ago tomorrow), but thought I would throw in my 2 cents anyway...... It might be time to ask yourself "What am I committed to?". Are you committed to a lifestyle of exercise and healthy eating? Are you committed to taking the best care of yourself as you can? More specifically- what will you commit to doing each day? Will you commit to 30 mins of exercise X number of times per week? Will you commit to writing down what you eat each day? Do you see where I am going here?--- we each are already making commitments by our actions every day, showing what we are and are not committed to---- the idea is to make the commitment intentional. If I declare I am committed to health, but then let myself eat food I know is not good for me, I am not being honest with myself. It is ok if you are not ready to commit to being healthy-- just be honest, so you know where you stand and so you can take responsibility for your choices instead of feeling "lost" and "out of control".

Best of luck to you on your journey! :)

Hi Melissa,

I know exactly where you are right now, cause I'm there too. Every day seems to be 'this is the day I will start to be good' - but then something happens and its always going to be tomorrow... I'm 15 months out, still have at least 40lbs to lose - see I can't even decide where my goal is in my mind... I really need to sit down and think about all I have achieved and what else I would like to happen on this journey - and like Tate777 has said, need to make that decision to take ownership.

I hope that some of this makes sense to you - or at least you hear where I'm trying to come from.

We have came this far - are we really going to stop now before we reach where we 'saw' ourselves at the start of our journeys?

Ok guys. Just want to let you know I am in this boat with you. I have had set backs since October and need to get in track. The first step is knowing what is wrong and it sounds like we all have that in common. Now we have to move past the bad decisions and not look back. One step at a time right?

I think you just have to get up in the morning and get through that day. We have been over eating for years; so to have a "in the rut" moment happens. I gained 6 pounds over the holidays. When I looked at what I was / was not doing it was easy to identify. Take a look at your day.

My biggest problem was I stopped measuring my food. I also would eat for way over 20 minutes, not stopping when I knew I was full. Back to that clean your plate mentality........even if it took 45 minutes.

You can do this !.

Linda

You are down 88 lbs. Remember this. That is no small thing.

You are human and on YOUR journey.

As far as comparing yourself to others......everyone lies. Also, everyone is different. Those two things mean your journey is YOUR journey.

In lieu of cal/carb/prot/fat/liquid daily tracking and analysis are you following the golden rules?

Live your life. Follow the rules, let things be.

You might want to try something completely different for exercise just to get you started again. I started pilates when I was 230 lbs and have really enjoyed it. You might like something different - but the point is to branch out (and not stay on the same old treadmill!).

Hi Melissa, you are not alone!!! I totally lost control over the holidays. I am struggling to get back on track too. Starting slow...committing to at least taking my Vitamins, drinking Water and 2 Protein shakes daily. I am embarrassed this has happened. But this will be a lifelong struggle! We need to forgive ourselves and move forward. Best of luck on your journey:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
