Any NC sleeveers out there?

Recommended Posts

I all...I had my sleeve surgery on 1/17. I'm doing pretty good but finding the mental addiction to food very strong for me. All of this cold, snowy weather hasn't helped. I would love to connect with any other NC folks. My surgeon was Dr. Paul Enochs in Cary. He did my lapband back in 2000 also. I had my band removed in December.

Hi wolfpack girl, I am also a wolfpack girl :) I am just starting the process (not sleeved yet), but i too have issues with food :( I am hoping to be sleeved by Dr. Bruce, who works with Dr. Enochs.

How have things been going the last couple of months? How was your recovery?

I'm really nervous because this is such a permanent thing. I worry that because some of my eating is habit/comfort that I'll mess it up down the road.

Hope everything is going well.

Hi Sweetie716…congrats on making the decision to have the sleeve surgery. I am doing GREAT! I am down 50 pounds since my surgery Janary 17th, 2014. I will tell you the weeks before and about 6 weeks after the surgery are tough. Not because if any pain or discomfort but because of the drastic change in lifestyle. Make sure you follow their eating and drinking directions and you will not have any problems. I very rarely have nausea which some sleeve patients experience. If I don't eat every 3-4 hours, then I can have nausea, even though I am 3 months post surgery.

This is the best thing I have ever done for myself and would do it over again. Be patient and you will be glad you had the surgery.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Hey wolfpack girl, I just had my initial consultation today. I was a little bit discouraged after. I felt like just a check off my surgeons list. He didn't ask if I had questions, I practically had to stop him on his way out the door to ask if I was going to talk to someone who would answer my questions and felt like I was being a pain in the butt. How was your experience at that office? I know at the beginning of this process there are a lot of new patients to deal with for them, but it would be nice to feel like they care a little about you as an individual.

A BIG question I have is about the emotional or habit eating part of my problem. I don't just eat when I'm hungry- sometimes its because its "time" to eat or because I'm about to watch tv, or if I'm really emotionally stressed. When I asked him about if the surgery will help with any of this he said something like 'you wouldn't look at a fire and just decide to play with it- that would be dumb.' (talking about eating carbs). I felt like he wasn't acknowledging a big component of my problem. Before I decide for sure to go through with this surgery, I want to know that I will still be maintaining my weight loss 5 or 10 years down the line. I've lost a lot of weight before, but haven't been able to keep it off. I need to know that if I go through the process of having surgery that it in some way or at some point in the process I will learn to deal with it or that the sleeve will help me to maintain a healthier weight.

So anyway, kind of discouraged after that consultation. Maybe that's a question I should be asking here anyway to other people who have been through and had more similar experiences with food to mine.

Also, I found out I have to have 6 months of physician monitored plan per my insurance - so it looks like I'll be waiting until Christmas break to have surgery.

Hope all is well with you!

I am in Brunswick County. Moving through my steps and hoping for surgery in July. At our informational meeting earlier this month there were actually two guys that drove to Wilmington from Raleigh to see my surgeon. His statistics are amazing and has not had any patients with major complications or leaks. Makes me feel a LOT better.

This whole journey is nerve wracking! I think I'm gaining weight faster than ever which is bad. I am a teacher and this time of year is stressful. I also feel like all I do in my spare time is watch YouTube videos of sleeved people and read forums on here! I am working hard on trying to eat Protein foods now and get myself into the habit. Do you have a support group in Cary you could go to? There is a support group in Wilmington once a month and I plan to go in June. It would be awesome to have friends in NC though to keep up with through this journey. :) I downloaded a book on my Kindle App- Shades of Hope - so far I'm really into it and it had 5 star reviews.

Definitely keep in touch! We all need each other's support! (don't judge me though- I'm a Tarheel girl :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
