I am almost 7 weeks out! I am still having a hard time eating foods. No, I'm not eating fried, greasy, fatty foods. I not beyond cottage and mandarin oranges yet! Can eat no more than 2oz at a time. Example: Potted meat, salmon, tuna, eggs, and applesauce make me sick for hours. I think I am going into starvation mode. I've lost almost 30 lbs since surgery 12/19....not good at all. I go see my Dr on the 3rd of Feb. hopefully he can tell me something.

after surgery (any WLS) one is swollen from surgery itself..

this may explain why you cant eat much, i found it was that way with me.

agree with christian, go slow and pace yourself.....eating too fast/too much can make you feel the way you described.

Then try 1oz at a time. I'm 6 weeks out and that's about all I can eat. Yogurt, thin Soups and shakes go down fine, but I can't eat more than 2 tbls of anything "solid" .

I wasn't allowed more than 3 tablespoons of food at a time for the first 8 weeks after surgery. I've only recently been able to eat 2 ounces of Protein (chicken, fish), and I'm over seven months out. Sounds to me like your restriction is good - check with your doctor of course, but you may want to cut back the amount you are eating in order to avoid that nausea and discomfort.

Don't be too concerned. At 7-8 weeks, I was about the same. I'm almost 9 months out and still do not tolerate canned tuna that well (fresh tuna steaks, no problem). I can eat almost anything, albeit small quantities (Which is why I went this route in the first place, so that's good! :)).

My wife is almost 7 months out and has no problem with tuna, yet cannot eat more than 4 oz. or so at one time, regardless of food type/consistency.

Hang in there and as others have said, take it slow and easy...you need time to figure out what your new belly likes and doesn't like! :D

Good luck on your journey!

I had my surgery on 12/5 and I'm about the same as you but, I haven't tried eating any fruit yet. My doctor recommends Protein first, veggies and then starches if there's room left.

I am 10 weeks out today and my surgeons intake recommendations are still 2oz meals 3x/day...if I'm eating sense Protein I can barely eat that! Hang in there things are still new and swollen. Around 7-8 weeks I felt a change in my sleeve almost as tho it relaxed and felt back to normal(even tho I had no pains before, something just clicked or changed) my advice is to make sure you are eating slowly, I still struggle with and pay for this! Always call your doc tho that's what they are there for! Best of luck to you!

I can relate to you. I am only 3 weeks post op, and I can't eat anything this week, just liquids. Everything (not liquids) that I eat I run to the bathroom and throw it up. I am so sick of these liquids, but I have no choice. I can't keep anything else down. So, I am stuck with Water and Protein shakes uhg. The thought of them make me cringe. No bueno :(. I know when I go to my appointment next week the doctor is going to keep me on liquids. Oh how I would love to have something that I can chew. Darn this sleeve! On the plus side I am down a size and a half  .

Good luck to you. I hope everything works out for you soon!

I was the same way at your point. I am 14 weeks and can only this week now eat a little bit more.

Thanks you guys! I eat very slow, it takes me about 30mins per meal which is about 2oz. Seriously, the first bite I get sick on the way down! The second bite I just want to quit, but I know if I don't eat something I will really be sick. It's like my stomach has gotten use to full liquid.....that is all it will tolerate.

I love my sleeve, but I am to scared to eat anything solid because it makes me sick. I have no energy even with my Liquid Protein.

I felt the same way early out. I was frightened to progress. I was told that whatever size bite I was currently taking, to cut it in half. Chew ridiculously well and wait longer than I want to before attempting another bite. Also, if I was eating 4 bites before getting the pain, then next time, just eat 3, not matter how I felt.

It is a process of re-teaching our bodies and our minds how to eat for our new stomachs. Just remember that you just can't do it the way you used to. Don't even try.

Jane, it's normal. It gets better. I did not like eating at all until 4 months out at least and even now I sometimes find it uncomfortable. Just hang in there and be patient.

Hmmm....30# in six weeks is pretty good, be proud! I am 5 weeks out and eat a about 2oz per meal, who h is per my instruction. I get my Protein in by having a snack like yogurt or cottage cheese in the morning and at night.

--- I agree, solid stuff takes me forever. I'm 7 weeks out today (vsg plus hernia repair 12.12)

Just to get an idea ...

1 large scrambled egg with dash skim milk and shredded cheese : about 1 hour or so to consume

2 tbls tuna: 45 minutes (initially 1 tbs in one hour)

1 oz baked salmon: 90% in 75 minutes (so tasty!!)

2 very thin slices honey turkey deli plus 1/4 slice Swiss: about 1 hour

Sometimes I give up before im done and i still need to incorporate shakes to get in adequate Protein but I've learned to deal with my new reality and realize I need Protein as if it were oxygen in order to heal so I have to stay focused. I really don't know what full feels like but I know I have to take it easy chew very well or else my hernia and stomach will go bazerk inside my abdomen. I believe this will get better with time.

I've progressed a lot with Water and Protein shake intake. Smart Water room temp seems to be the easiest for me to get down past hernia (about 16oz 30 minutes compared to 16oz of poland spring in 3 hours when I was 2 weeks out). one 11 oz Premier Protein shake with blended frozen fruit and unsweetened almond milk take me about an hour and maybe a little longer if not at room temp.

good luck and stay in touch with your surgeons office for recommendations and support!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
