Banded 4 days... Liquid phase is killing me!

Recommended Posts

I'm very frustrated and hungry :,( I am on liquids and I just keep feeling hungry no matter what I consume. I know this is a short time in the long term goal but I just wish I could at least be on puréed right now. I can feel that whatever I eat is going right through. As it should because I'm only on liquids and have no restriction in my band yet. I'm just venting. A lot of it is head hunger but this is rough! I guess it's also good because it means im healing well and the stomach swelling is going down.

Welcome to the banded world. And vent away! The people around here all went through the same phase and it will pass. I'm 3 1/2 months out from my surgery and it is a distant memory. Just focus on healing yourself. Again, welcome to the club.

Yep, we all went through it. I guess I don't have to tell you how important it is to stick with it, no matter HOW hard it is. In a relatively short time, this part will be a distant memory :-)

So rough but I'd be way to scared to eat something not in the liquid phase. It just sucks opening the fridge to get a Jello and seeing Bagels rolls and pastries and cheese and deli meats

I am also wondering if it is normal to be THIS hungry! Or maybe it's not even hunger... Maybe it's just cravings... Things I need to learn!!

During this time I enjoyed Tomato basil Soup and golden squash soup. I didn't even know I liked squash! The tomato basil reminded me of the sauce on raviolies. Also, I had some hot and sour broth with plain Protein Powder mixed in.

I had been craving Italian food yesterday because I have been realizing so many things I can make that would be low carb and Italian just knockin out bread and Pasta so I was looking at recipes. I ended up sending hubby out for some Tomato basil Soup. I sprinkled a tiny bit of Parmesan cheese though and it has been my savior so far! So goood!

I don't think it will hurt you but will probably fill you up a little but you should probably ask your doctor or nutritionist .

Try sugar free Popsicles or no sugar fudgesicles it might satisfy you at the end of your day after your liquids diet.

Try some egg drop Soup. Lots of Protein and very satisfying.

Wish I would have thought of this as I was struggling through this phase. I love egg drop soup!

This is the time you need to keep busy. The more you sit around and think about food the more you are going to want to eat. If you are feeling up to it do some light house keeping, read a book, watch a movie that has no commercials, read the news paper, play games on line. There are so many things you can do to keep yourself occupied.

I will be 2 weeks tomorrow. I have been hungry since the 1st day. My Doc wants full liquids for 3 weeks. What has saved me is creamed Soup reciepes ie: cauliflower, broc, zuchinni, roasted red pepper that I found on skinnytaste.com. They are all made with chicken broth, are low cal and you can make them as liquid as you need, and you can add unflavored Protein powder if you want. 10 days till my Dr appt and progression to mushies. Can hardly wait.

As long as you stir constantly while adding the egg, the egg parts are small, very soft and slippery. It's about as close to liquid as you can come. But if you are struggling with any kind of fluids, don't consume anything until the swelling goes down.

This may not be within your doctors guidelines so you might want to run it by him? Mine was fine with it 4 days out.

Aww. Vent away. If anyone gets how you are feeling, we do! LOL

The liquids phases sucks so much! But they are crucial to our healing. We need to ingest the soft, gentle, mild liquid, then mushy food for a month to let our stomach heal and our band settle firmly into place so that it is ready to rock it's job for the long term.

Hang in there. I know that the post op diet feels as if it will last for forever. But trust me, when it is over, you will look back on it and it will be but a flash. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
