1st appt set for 3/10/14

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!! I am new here, but have reading the threads and responses for about a week now. All I can say is WOW! What a wonderful support system. Reading everyone's posts and responses has made this plus size girl feel no longer alone. You all are so amazing!

I have my first appt to meet with the Bariatric center, surgeon, nutritionist and support group in March.... 3/10. I was offered an earlier appt in February, but wanted to make sure my sleep study for the apnea was done and results were in. I am so all over the place with my emotions. I cry, I laugh, I feel helpless and hopeless and then feel ok. I know that I need to change my life for good. I have 2 beautiful little girls and a new husband who is so supportive and amazing! He wants me to be healthy. Period. And so do I. Would I like to be a size 4, or 6 or even an 8? SURE! But what's more important to me is being healthy. Once and for all. I want to love for my kids, for myself and I want it to be a long and healthy one. Any and all advice anyone can lend me is wonderful and much appreciated. I think each and every one of you is amazing, and thank you for making me feel welcomed and not alone any more!!!!

Good luck! The advise I can give is to listen to the doctors and do not compare others weight loss with yours. I was doing that and they stated everyone's body is different.

I had my surgery Dec 30th. When I came home from the hospital I actually gained 8 lbs. they say it is because of all the iv fluids they pump you up with. So if you gain don't be upset, it is normal.

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.i had a gastric bypass October13, 2013. I have lost 55 lbs and I feel great! I can do things now I haven't done in years! The most important thing is being off all meds for diabetes and cholesterol. I only take 1/2 a bp pill where I was taking 4 pills a day before surgery. I hope to get off that when I lose more weight. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. I am sure you will do great. I was sore for about 2 weeks, the pain was not bad at all. I was very nervous going into the surgery, but I am so glad I did it! I'll be praying for you.

Welcome...I just joined myself however I was stalking everyone for about a month. I waited to join until Monday after my first meeting with my surgeon. He anticipates surgery for me mid-March, I'm so very excited and also very nervous but like you I'm doing this to get healthy. Being able to buy cute clothes is a plus for me, it's getting of the meds that I'm looking forward to. Good luck to you, I'll be keeping in touch.

Welcome, I hope you enjoy the support you get on this site. I am having my first appointment on February 3rd. Technically its my second time starting the program. I had to quit last year due to some insurances issues. I thought I would be all into the fact that I would be able to buy nice clothing. Which is something I have never gotten to do before cause I have been overweight since I was a child. I have realized my health is more important that cute clothing. My father died of heart disease when he was 45 and I don't want to follow in his footsteps. I take several meds, like many of us on the site, and I just want to get off them. I am glad I have had to wait quite some time to restart the program it has given me time to think about this life changing decision and really know if its what I really want to do. Again, welcome to the forum.

Hello jtickle!!! I too share the same fears about health and following in family footsteps. My dad has cardiovascular health issues as well. I just don't want to continue to ride this merry go round.... I lose, I gain, I lose and I gain. Then the co-morbidity's started. My husband is afraid to fall asleep at night for fear I will not wake up because of my sleep apnea.... My sleep study is in 3 weeks. I was diagnosed after I was hospitalized with sleep apnea, because of the run of V-tach I had. Heart is healthy, thank god, so they told me they see it a lot in sleep apnea. My snoring doesn't keep him awake, it's light, but he can hear when I stop breathing.... And it scares him so much. My highest weight was over 350... 352 to be exact. I got down to 170 on my own, and gained most of it back over the last 5 yrs... I am up to 275. I am so tired all the time and so embarrassed to be seen in public. I work in health care for goodness sake, how can I be an example of "health" when it is quite obvious I'm not. I just want to be healthy. The nice clothes and smaller sizes is definitely a plus, my health for me, my beautiful kids and my step daughter and my new marriage/new husband mean MORE to me. Thanks for reaching out to me. Good luck with your journey. I'm here if you ever need an ear. :) keep me/us posted!!!

I think that taking the step to do it and to better your health and your body is the best step. No matter what you chose. Sometimes, like in all of our cases we haven't been successful. I also think nobody can truly understand a struggle (like ours) unless they are forced to deal with it daily and you try and try. The most heartbreaking is failing, so to speak. And it's so hard to face normal things in life, like keeping up with kids and grand babies. I can completely understand and agree with you!! Good luck in your process too!!! I can't wait to hear how all of it goes for you!!!! :)

My diets never worked. My changes in lifestyle never worked. I would lose, and then gain and then lose some more and gain a whole lot back. No matter what I tried and changed. My weight issues started at 17... I'm 37 now. I haven't had any gastric surgeries or procedures related to weight loss. I see my surgeon for the first time in March. I was offered earlier appts, but wanted to make sure all of my testing and follow up appts were complete. So I can stave off red tape with my insurance. Even though it is completely covered, less 10%. So I am right were you are. Excited, scared, nervous and just wanting this all to be "ok".

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
