What's are you doing about clothes?

Recommended Posts

As we start dropping weight and changing sizes, how are folks planning to deal with constantly changing clothes and replacing them. I haven't shopped since surgery and waiting to lose a significant amount/clothes to start falling off me before I replace them. But honestly have no clue what to buy and how much. What are you doing?

Well for me... Thrift stores & clearance items for now. I'm tired of spending $.

I've bought a few things at thrift stores have bought a few new shirts along the way when I couldn't find anything elsewhere. Goodwill has been a great resource so far.

For clothes you are getting rid of, keep Women's Shelters in mind. They go to the centers with the clothes on their backs and would appreciate the donations.

I kept my smaller clothes from when I lost before and as I regained. I hope to just wear the old stuff for awhile because it is way too expensive to replace dress clothes every month and tailoring only looks good one time.

I needed some nicer clothes for work and picked them up at a good consignment shop.

Not sure if you have a Clothes Mentor in your area. They have nicer clothes than a traditional thrift shop. You can also trade in your old clothes. However, they are style conscious and rejected several things I wanted to sell as they weren't in style. dde0b

In honor of my wife's shabby chic decor trend I dress in harmony.

Ok, I'm cheap and don't care how I look. I went through a phase when I reached goal of buying expensive clothes. Now I am used to being slim and have moved back to Slobivia. B)

I found at each stage I could get away with buying just a few basic inexpensive pieces (black dress pants, pair of jeans) at a Walmart or old navy which I could wear for a couple of months then replace with smaller sizes.

I feel lucky... I have a wonderful friend that had her sleeve done about 8 months before me and gave me her clothes as she was losing weight... She continues to lose weight :-)

I had several sizes in my closet to go through for the first few months. After that I shopped sale and clearance racks. As I continued to lose and I started clearing out the closet, I sorted into 4 piles. Sell, donate, toss, and give to friends.

I got lucky and had clothes given to me. I'm sure I'll have to buy down thru the sizes. My doc told me I could save the resets and file under medical.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
