I think, worse, my bad habits are returning moreso than my hunger. I find myself wanting fast food or soda, or heading to the kitchen because I'm bored. I'm trying to fight it but I've even gained back about 10 pounds. In the grand scheme of things thats not much, but I refuse to get even close back to the way I was before. It makes me nervous sometimes, but I just have to keep fighting it.

I'm with you! I find that I'm really struggling against my old eating patterns. Not only do I feel hunger more I also can eat more. It really scares me. I keep fighting with the same 3 lbs. better than fighting with 25 lbs but I feel very discouraged, fearful and ashamed over my lack of self-control. But then my self-control has never been very strong when it comes to food. I am trying to incorporate a Protein Shake as a Meal Replacement. Not every day but at least twice a week. It seems like the more I eat the more I CAN eat and in order to feel the sleeve's restriction I have to stop eating solid food for a while.

I'm glad I found this thread. I feel I sometimes can't control my hunger. I'm eating way too much. Sometimes it's Protein Bars. But too many. I'm 17months out. I feel I'll never meet goal. I've gains 13lbs since my 1yr anniversary. And this is hitting the gym all the time. I know it's food. It's always about food

I'm not a veteran. I'm only one month post-op but my hunger never left. Kinda feel cheated on that deal.

I've gains 13lbs since my 1yr anniversary. And this is hitting the gym all the time. I know it's food. It's always about food

The surgeon didn't operate on my brain! That's the problem! Stress is a big issue for me right now and I know it not only makes me want to eat more but also causes your body to hold on to everything. I swear sometimes I can feel my thighs storing fat! LOL! I need to restructure how I use my time so that I can focus on what truly matters to me not only in terms of my weight loss but also how I want to live my life. I have a lot more choices but also feel overwhelmed and that stresses me out too! Feel like I can't win. :(

My advice.. ditch protein bars! They are sliders and also tend to be high carb. I am 28 months post op and eating low carb is the only thing that works for me to control hunger and cravings.

This is the vets forum and topic BUT I must say that it took awhile for the hunger reduction. At 4 weeks you are still on soft or mushy foods and nerve damage isn't healed yet. I think it takes till 6 weeks or MORE before things start feeling like they should. Also if you are not on a ppi for acid cont8...start now. That often feels like hunger and most everyone benefits from it in the early months. Our bodies still make acid for a full size tummy...

I never lost my hunger either. I'm six weeks out and am hungry. Maybe the surgeon left too much of the ghrelin hormone. ;)

A slider by definition is any food that you can eat too much of.. that does not give you a feeling of satiety. Many Protein bars fall into that catagory. If you can eat 2-3 a day that is too many unless you are some kinda mega athlete climbing Mt Everest or something.

But, that isn't what the vets forum is for - it is for veterans one or more year out to discuss topics unique to this phase in the journey. Many of us do post in other areas, but this is the ONE place on this website dedicated to people who want support in the later phases of the journey - please respect the rules that are posted at the top of this forum. I am not trying to be mean or unkind or unsupportive - it is just that vets just plain leave and don't hang around to give input to others if they don't have a place where they too can find support.

I feel hunger after about 3-4 hours after no matter how or what I've eaten in my last meal. i.e. high protein/lower carb... etc. Of course the hunger is worse or faster setting if I eat something high in carbs.

I'm noticing getting back to basics has helped me. I'm drinking my Protein Shakes. I made ground chuck hamburgers. I eat them without the bread. I could feel being full again. It lasted a little longer. But I have noticed also wanting to eat every few hrs. I fight hard the urge. And try to drink Water. But it's a true fight

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
