Dance Lessons.. NSV

Recommended Posts

Well. I have just taken a major step. I have signed up for C&W dance lessons starting Monday night. :( This is quite a step for me. I have country danced since I was 10 yrs old, however the country dancing I have done all my life is 'traditional' country dancing not all this new-fangled line dancing and steps. I literally danced my ass off when I was younger/single and never knew I had a serious weight problem. Then, I met my husband (who is now ex) and he did nothing of the sort. I danced on occasion even after that, but I really missed it and always sort of resented him for not learning how/taking that out of my life.

Once I was single, I had began traveling 100% for my work, so there has been no time or way to incorporate that or any sort of regular activity into my life. Then, I got sick and have been fighting my way back to something resembling health over the past 3 years in addition to traveling.

Now, my traveling has slowed way down and I think I may be working in the office or at least in the area more, so I just signed up for dance lessons and a local dance club who go dancing as a group on the weekends and some weeknights.

This has been a helluva long hard road and there were days I sure never thought I'd make it to this point, but I've been such a recluse these last few years, due to illness and self-loathing. I reckon this is exactly what NSV(non-scale victory) is all about. :D

Wow, Leatha, that sounds exciting on so many levels. It's great that you've taken steps to recapture the joy you once experienced with dancing. And it's great that you feel well enough and confident enough to do it. Good for you!

Yeah! That's a great step, Leatha. You will meet new people, exercise, and gain some great social exposure. Major step and very exciting.

My husband has promised to take dance lessons with me. We know lots of dancers. My dad is one of them and it would please him greatly if I learned. I'm not ready yet. You are an excellent example for me.

Wow, Leatha, you must certainly be "rebounding" from that last surgery! It's amazing how getting rid of something that hurts can make you feel so good! I am so proud of you! You'll look so cute! And it sounds like a wonderful way to meet some fun guys. Lucky dogs! What will you be wearing?:D

Leatha, you are doing amazingly well! And what a wonderful treat - I call this kind of activity "sneaky" exercise - something you do because of the fun an joy of it, not because it gets you moving.

Whoooo hooooo!!! And line dancing looks so fun.... :D

Yeah, it's been a while since I posted, I've been busy with renovating our master bath. I've read that Lisa and Donali are also doing revovations.

I'm also dabbling with learning to do upholstery. I have a job to sew some drapes and to recover some chairs. I've sewn all of my life, and sewn drapes and valences and such over the years. Now I'll just apply it to seating!

I am so stuck at my present weight, I KNOW that I have to get my butt moving in some type of exercise, I just can't get motivated. You have a great idea with dancing I love to dance too. My husband, like most, has to have a few Crown and 7's before he would even slow dance. He probably would balk at me going dancing without him!

Well OMG!! They worked my a$$ off!! lol That was so much fun, but I haven't worked that hard in forever. (since I was a little thang) :)

Before I left, my hair was wringing wet and my face was beet red (which I hate btw) but it was fun! Next time, cooler clothes! For less than 3 weeks out of surgery, I think I did pretty darn good!

Anyway, I learned the basics of the 'Progressive' 2 step. It was interesting to say the least. But, I enjoyed it and I already paid to go to an all day seminar/dance party on the 25th. This is a great way to get out and meet some people, which I definitely need!

Lethal update #1.

:D

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
