What to eat 6 weeks post op!?!

Recommended Posts

My 30th bday is in April and I'm having surgery in February. I am not telling my family members about the surgery. My mom and aunts want to make a big deal about my 30th going out for dinner and what not. I'm worried about what I will be able to eat 6 wks out and trying to keep it private.

I know everyone is different but I'd love to hear what u were able to eat around 6 weeks out. Any suggestions of what kind of food or restaurant I should go to?

If you are not telling your family members about your surgery, they will certainly think something is amiss when you are only eating 2 oz of food. Why don't you suggest that for your 30th birthday, you want it to be about you and make a spa day out of it. Either with massages, or facials. Something that healthy and not focused on food. Let them know you are dieting and that you prefer the focus be on making you feel fabulous. Good luck and hope it all turns out well.

By 6 weeks out you will be in soft foods.

I'm 4 weeks out and starting soft foods myself.

I've been out to eat twice so far. The first time I got a cup if Soup and that was perfect.

I went out to lunch today and got an appetizer. It was two scallops and two shrimp grilled on a skewer. Perfect amount to fill me up and very soft and easy to get down. If you like seafood that might be a good choice. Low in fat and very soft. Any flaky or soft fish will be good as long as it's grilled or broiled!

You won't be able to eat to much so the family might notice you have barely touched your food.< /p>

Good luck!

And they will notice you are not drinking anything with your meal.

Week 6 for my program is soft foods. All meat/fish needs to be moist. Chili is good, Soup is somewhat difficult to eat. (Soft foods and broth at the same time is like drinking while you eat.) The most I can eat at one time is a half cup. (Tonight I ate 3 homemade bison meatballs. I tied to do 4, but couldn't do it.) You also won't be able to skip meals to save room. It doesn't work that way. I agree with the spa day idea! Ooh. A nice massage, a facial, mani/pedis--something not focused on food. What a treat!

Good Luck and happy (early) birthday! :)

I am six weeks out now and I can't eat "normally" at a restaurant yet, though some can. I went to Disneyland this week and had to pack a lot of food with me.

I did eat cream Soups and chilli. I split a flaky fish entree with DH. Maybe go for Breakfast and get scrambled eggs or an omelette?

Or go with the spa idea!

I am 6 weeks out and I eat anything I want just not much of it. chicken and fish are my friend but steak doesn't like me. My staple food is very lean homemade chili. Super high in Protein and very filling. I can eat about 1/2 cup. I also use Unjury everyday to get in my protein. Blessings to you.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
