Good afternoon. Well I am 10 days out and really struggling with being on the liquid diet. I feel much better and the thought of waiting another 12 days until I can eat soft foods is KILLING me!!! Has anyone else struggled with this? Please send your suggestions or experiences. Protein Shakes, Jello, SF Popsicles and crystal light are getting old. Please help. Thanks.

Me, me, me! I found that there were a few days here when I was eating all day (popsicles mostly). When I stopped to think about it, I realized that my belly was fine and that it was my head telling me to eat.

The fix? I set meal and snack times. I don't get hungry just yet so I schedule meals, eat on schedule and it's fine.

I read somewhere that grazing can lead to overeating later. Had to nip that in the bud.

I'm about 16 days out and I think I was about 10 days out when it started. I hope this helps you in some way.

I did. I did liquid diet fie total of almost 7 weeks straight. I wss committed of course but I rold my husband I'd love it if they made a garlic chicken flavored Protein shake.

I was counting down the days until I could have something like Jello and yogurts.

Hang in there...

Me! I think we all struggle with this. What helped me a little was when I could advance from liquids to pureed. At least I can now introduce things like Greek yogurt (thinned with skim milk), ricotta, Jello (which I was not permitted on liquids). The sugar free popsicles in Tropical flavor really saved me - felt like a treat that i could sort of chew.

Hang in there - keep your eye on the prize! It will be worth it.

I had the two week preop, cheated on day 9 not bc I was hungry bc I'd gotten threw that phase but bc my family went to the mall where my fav meal was. Tried it, was discusting, made me angry but I survived. So, postop day I had complications so for the next 5 day stay in the hospital, no drinking, just iv fluids, on day 6 they let me drink. Day 8 came home for another 2 wk liq. I'm no hungry, physically or mentally but my doc makes me drink the 1 oz med cups 4/hr. So I'm constantly drinking shakes, crystal lite lemon flav, some chicken broth I'd done myself prior to surgery ( low sodium) and Jello in the oz cups. Ik I prob didnt help u, bc u do know what ur feeling, but the routine of drinkn that I'm on, keeps my mind settled away from head hunger. I cooked for my family today, was hard smelling it but I did good. I guess smelln it everyday in the hospital helped a lot. God bless and gl and if ur able to walk, take a stroll, read a good book, play spades on ur phone like I Do, lol. And most of all, all u can do is one day at a time, so don't waste it on the next day or the ten other days. Just get threw today.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Trying to keep my eye on the prize but feeding 3 kids and a husband makes it super hard. My husband is very helpful but it is still just so hard. I'm not hungry yet want to grab a handful of ANYTHING or a bite of SOMETHING. Hopefully after this phase life will become somewhat easier and I will be a bit less moody!!

i found that during the post op diet your head hunger is the worst because you know you CAN'T have something. it's frustrating. once you're cleared for all foods (at least i found) it got much better. in fact, i've gone out with friends to restaurants and not even ordered anything because i was STILL full from a previous meal. sometimes i have to make myself eat because i forget it's been like 4-5 hours since my last meal or snack. it will get better! you just have to trek on through it. plus, remember that popsicles and Jello (at least on my plan) counted towards your liquids for the day, so that's good! two birds, one stone!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
