December sleevers 2013 just checking in!

Recommended Posts

Sleeved on 12/9, down 32 lbs and feeling great! I am still on mostly puréed, and starting to introduce solids. It's going pretty good and does get easier with time. I am currently looking for new Protein Shakes or a Protein Powder that I can tolerate to add to my foods and smoothies. I am craving a super crispy salad but am very apprehensive. I will hold off a little while.

I had my surgery 12/11/13. I'm doing well. Back at work on 12/30/13. I work in an office so it's not hard to go back to work. I lost 10.5 on my pre-op and 15 at my first week follow up appointment. I've recently recovered from a bad bout of Constipation. Started doing Fiber EVERY DAY. Along with Probiotics. I'm on solids and still trying to get the whole knowing when I'm full down. I'm wearing a size 24 instead of a 28. I haven't weighed myself because I don't have another follow-up appointment until 1/22/14. I don't want to get obsessed with the scale.

I'm just happy my size 24's are loose on me. : )

I agree completely! I weighed in at my first post-op having lost 15 pounds 2 weeks after surgery. I won't get weighed again until my NUT and nurse appt. on 1/15/14. I know I am losing--that's enough. If I had a scale, I know I'd weigh myself every hour. It would be too much of a temptation. Instead I am focusing on cutting 1 of my blood pressure meds in half (Yippee) and taking less than half of my original insulin dose. (I am a Type I diabetic, so I can't be cured, but I can be healthier!) Looking forward to moving my little mermaid after my appt. on the 15th! :)

Hey slvrsax, hang in there! I'm having the same issues you are. (Sleeved the same day) Pre-op I always drank at least 64oz. of Water a day and post-op I have been struggling with this. It helps if you break the surface tension of the Water with something, i.e., lemon juice, Mio drops, etc. But even with this, I'm still struggling to drink as much as I should. I believe it will get better with time. Still having some low grade nausea too - esp. in the morning. Some days are better than others. I hope it helps you to hear that someone else is going through what you are experiencing. Just be patient with your body, it will get better. Zumba is a great goal to have! If you can't do it quite yet at 6 wks. post-op, then try a bit later. Try doing it at a lower level, remember you haven't done that vigorous of exercise for a while now. Think about how good it will feel to do it with your thinner, lighter version of you! :)

Hopefulinthemidwest, thanks for the encouragement, I needed it! It's nice to know I'm not alone!

abarta83,

Appeal your STD... Your employer new you where requesting STD and HR should have step in and told you but with a Pre exist I don't think they can do that... If not, seek a free consult with attorney and see what they say. I think the legal membership we have you can have a free consult... It was called legal shield check it out... only cost able $18. per month and we have used it numerous occasions and save a lot on legal fees.

I had the sleeve on Dec 20th. Still at home recovering. I am 52 yrs old so I did not expect to heal as quickly or lose the weight as some of the younger people I know who had this surgery. Altogether including the dieting before surgery I have lost 22 pounds. I am on soft foods now. I was starving and in misery when I was on liquids including full. Feel fine now on soft. 1 small Protein based meal lasts me for 4-5 hours. I measure my food because I will keep eating until whatever I have is gone so it is important to make sure I control my portions. After years of dieting I can usually eyeball the amounts without measuring but I am being extra cautious now. How does one get that nifty banner that shows weight loss and amount left to lose? I had extreme nausea in the hospital but is was from the morphine they gave me. I was able to self administer it but refused to ever push the button so they gave me oral pain medication and after the morphine they gave me wore off so did the nausea.

Hi,

I was sleeved 12/5. I had an easy recovery and am so grateful to my surgeon for cosmetically fixing my scars. As a band to sleeve conversion I've had this same lap surgery 5 times in 5 years so the scars were starting to get ropey. He did a scar revision (I didn't even ask!) and they are healing nice and flat, I can tell they will become almost invisible.

I am on pureed foods now and not loving anything which is good I suppose. Nothing taste really good. I'm already stalled but then I was a pretty low BMI since I was a band conversion so I expect it to be slow. I know I'm consuming around 800 calories a day at most but I think the issues I had with the band have my metabolism all messed up. I just started Yoga and regular massage since my cranky back can't have Aleve any more. I've done weight training for the past 5 years so decided to mix it up a bit and try to deal with the back pain naturally.

Because of the early stall I'm also moving proactively to the 5:2 eating plan (regular (pureed/soft) sleeve consumption 5 days a week and a modified liquid fast 2 days a week). My surgeon approved. I understand that is a good way to snap out of a stall and since I am not used to eating real foods I hardly noticed going back on liquids today. I hope this is effective.

Regarding poopage....I had vicious diarrhea the first two weeks but everyone said that would change and I would get constipated. Well they were right, I think I'll get some Colace. I miss my fresh veggies and think I will do better when I am able to get some natural fiber.

Best wishes for a fab. 2014 to everyone, sleevers ROCK!

Your doctor may not be excited by a 42 pound with loss but I am sure proud of you. News flash! When was the last time you lost 42 pounds in 3 weeks??? You are fantabulous!

I was sleeved 12/12. Down a total of almost six pounds. I feel fine and I like eating tiny portions, but I wish I'd saved my money. I have met some fantastic fellow sleevers online, but I'm so envious of their success.

Down 30+ lbs & feeling great!

Had my first meal yesterday that didn't agree with me, on day 2 of the soft foods diet: 3/4 can of tuna fish with light mayo.< /p>

I don't think I'll be having tuna fish again for a while.

Hi all, I was sleeved 12/18/13. Lost 29 during pre-op diet & another 18 since surgery (having fun converting my kg to lb!). Week 3 was awful for indigestion & Constipation but regulating now & taking on the mushy stage better. I'm still only getting in about 400 calories / 30-35g Protein per day. Has everyone else been able to reach the 50/60g protein goals?

Dec 3rd sleever here. Down 25lbs. Nothing in the last week and I had a 2 week stall mid December. Patience is a virtue I don't have. Are we there yet?!?!?!? Hahaha

Me too - was sleeved on Dec. 4, down 20 lbs. Stalled now going on about 10 days. I struggle with severe burping and/or the inability to do so when I drink much of anything. Water makes it worse. I've noticed if I drink more than 1 cup of coffee, that it gets worse. Stomach doesn't hurt - feels like the esophogus is full or spasming. Anyone else have this ?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
