Incisional hernia or something else?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on Sept 24th. I've always had this little know to the right of my belly button by the incision where the doctor said the stomach was taken out at. It eventually got better but never quite went away. WELL....friday it came back. IT HURTS!

It hurts when i go from sitting to standing, a little when i walk, when i lift my leg to walk upstairs or get in bed. Its also tender to touch.

I saw the doctor today and he said it could be a hernia or something to do with the muscle that was stitched together. I have my doubts on the hernia idea because i read there would be a noticeable bulge and there is not.

I have a ct scan scheduled in a few days but i am not looking forward to another surgery. Has anyone had anything similar? if so, what was it? I would like to hope this will just go away over time but the doctor said its been too long as it is. If anyone is experiencing something similar i'll be sure to keep you updated.

How's it going? What's the ct show?

On post op day 18, I awakened with the same pain, same area. Spoke with a PA yesterday who examined me saying it could be an incisional hernia (but didn't see anything on ultrasound) or a residual gallstone that is still in a duct ( had gallbladder removed same time). My doctor, whom I have total confidence in, was in surgery yesterday.

So I came home, worried and scared, that it's something serious.

Wondering why you haven't reposted a follow up and so hoping you will. I have searched the internet for 4 days and you are the only one that has described my symptoms.

I'm just under 2 wks post op & I have the same symptoms you're talking about on right side of belly button. I also had my gall bladder removed. I calked yesterday & they don't seem worried about it, didn't even move up my follow up appt. It's getting worse instead of better. I'd like to get to work Monday at least part time.

Hey Molly--- so sorry I have just noticed your post. (Learning my way around this app). I am happy to say that my pain is now resolved but only recently. The lap site to the right of the belly button is the "main lap site" where they pull out the gallbladder and remnant stomach so that may be just cause for your pain. After a CT and 3 additional visits to MD, it was determined that it was healing muscle and perhaps I had overdone it on my "light housekeeping"...

I was scared it was more and I hope your pain is from something as simple as mine.

Keep us updated.

Thank you. I'm feeling so much better. You were right on with the spot of my pain and why. It's better each day. I'm back to work and getting my energy back.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
