I'm getting a bit nervous now. Just for the anesthesia part. I get super sick from it. I keep getting emotional too. I know I'll be okay. Just scared for my baby girl if things don't go well.

At this time tomorrow, I'm hoping I'm waking the halls and not throwing up. Fingers crossed :)

Hopefully you get to meet with your anesthesiologist and tell them about previous experiences. I have had multiple surgeries and a different complication or weird reaction to the anesthesia. I got to talk to my anesthesiologist before surgery. This time I had a hard time waking up, which I have had before. But I didn't get nauseas and vomit everywhere and I didn't come out unable to breathe on my own (anesthesia caused a partially collapsed lung when I had my band placed in 2009). I will take the struggling to wake up over being violently ill after abdominal surgery. I am making up for it with long walks outside and also trying to walk around the island in my parents kitchen every time I get up because I didn't get out of bed (except to pee twice) for at least 24 hours after surgery. Just making sure I keep that blood moving!

Keep us updated. I'm wishing you all the best and know you will pull through beautifully!

Wow that was a bad experience you had. I'm glad all is ok w/you.

I'll post when I get back to my room tomorrow evening or when ever I can.

Oh yes they make us get out of bed a few hours after going to our room and then make you walk every 2 hrs. Everyone says walking is the best thing. I'll be walking the halls this time tomorrow night. Be glad when it's over.

Feb 25 here! Getting nervous and feeling a bit depressed. Is that normal? The depressed part?

I think the depression is totally normal. The combo of experiencing a major life change and having a hard time knowing how things will be when you come of surgery is a lot to take! I saw on another thread that one woman's surgeon told her his patients have been depressed all through the first month post-op.

Try to focus on positive thoughts. Why did you decide to do this? What are you looking forward to most after surgery? Imagine yourself thinner, healthier and in different clothes. Doing that definitely helped ease my anxiety. Also, if you have to do the liquid diet, that doesn't help. Lol. It makes you hungry and irritable and exacerbates any concerns you may have. Just try to stay busy and direct your mind to happy thoughts. It makes a huge difference.

Oh girls. Tonight has been an epic fail on trying new stuff. Haha

I tried the Soups my doc sells. Terrible. I tried the strawberry Protein powder. Terrible. The only thing that turned out is that I bleached my hooker roots, and it went as it usually does. Though it should since I'm licensed and stuff. Hah.

I think it's absolutely normal to have some depression. We've been through a lot. To me, it's depressing knowing I need surgery to make this change actually work long term. But I'm excited that there is a way to change my metabolism and jump start my weightloss.

That sucks. What soups were they?

I made my New Direction broc n cheddar Soup with home made chicken stock that was seasoned deliciously. It was so good.

Thank goodness your hooker roots are gone. Thought we were gonna have to change your name into a hooker name. Like "Cinnamon" or something.

They were ProtiDiet soups. Tomato and creamy chicken. The tomato was awful and pink, and the creamy chicken wasn't awful, but I'm not sure I could handle it. I'm just bummed cause they have 15g of Protein. I was so surprised, since the concentrate stuff is so good. Bahahahahahaha. That gave me a good lol. Cinnamon. Ha!

At least you got your hooked roots under control! Gotta show them who's the head bitch.

Bummer about the Soup and powder. I know how much it sucks to invest in those and hate them. Maybe you can re-sell the powder on Craigslist? People will buy anything off CL, even your hooker roots!

I'm gonna ask about normal (heart healthy stuff) Tomato Soup tomorrow. I have to go to the doc anyways to get some Protein Powder and stuff.

Yeah. The hooker roots have been driving me crazy for a few weeks. But I wanted to wait as long as possible, so I'd not have to worry for a bit after surgery. I imagine it won't be fun raising yay arms above my head for more than a Shampoo won't be fun for a minute. Hah.

And it's okay! Thankfully it was just samples and I didn't buy a box of the stuff. I was just bummed it was so bad because I'm not such a fan of adding Protein powder to soup.

I'm doing well, still excited. Lol, like Jen, I'll pack my bags tomorrow. At the last minute. Haha

Be careful! You have further to travel than I did. And I was too out of it to care about my phone or iPad. I just wanted to sleep. So I bought an extension cord just for the stay and it didn't get touched until I got home Friday night. Lol.

I will probably update. I just can't be held responsible for and grammatical errors. Lol

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
