How did you prepare for your surgery?

Recommended Posts

I just found out today I am approved for surgery. I didn't think I would be approved this fast, so I'm kinda on edge a little bit. Plus my weight keeps fluctuating 1-3 pounds everyday, which makes me nervous. I started doing a liquid diet yesterday, not so bad. But I'm just wondering what others did to prepare for their surgery? I'm hoping to have surgery the end of this month or the first couple days of February.

Make sure you buy a blistex when you go to the hospital. That helped me soooooo muchhhhh... Prepare yourself emotionally that you can't eat when u come home. I was so excited about the surgery that I didn't prepare myself emotionally and now it's been 4 days since surgery and I am having a hard time :( . I know it's not forever but it has been the longest 4 days of my life. And congrats. I was so excited when I got approved.

Thank you!!

Oh I learned on how emotional it was in Sept when I had emergency appendix surgery and had complications for a month and spent that month in and out of the hospital. I lost 22 pounds in one month because I couldn't eat really anything. I was basically over eating and didn't want to eat because of the pain and was just sick.

I have no pain at all. I forget in the morning that I just had surgery. I am thankful for that. Just be prepared because I am wanting food that I would of never ate before the surgery. It's sooo worth it. I did regret surgery first day but not after that. I've been happy just miss food. You will do fine. Being your own pillow and it's a MUST that you bring a mouth wash omg it comes handy. Also lotion. A phone charger and extension is mandatory lol

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
