Recommended Posts

My mom and sister was all for the surgery a few months back. Now that I'm half way through the 6mnths diet..they are telling me I don't really need wls. .that I will get to skinny and I will look unhealthy. .cause they know a few people that had wls, now they look unhealthy and look older..I'm getting nervous. My current weight is 240lbs..5'4..I think that's pretty big..getting realllly nervous...anyone got to skinny. .I realllly doubt I will get down to 120-130lb..after wls..any advice?

I started at about your weight and 10 months later, I wish too skinny was my problem. I still need to lose the last 10-15 lbs and it is a b!tch. I am working very hard to lose it, the weight slows with time. I think education may help. Can you take one or both to a Dr's appt? Let the pros explain why this is right for you.

I would take them with me, but no use..I've already made up my mind to go with it..just need God's hand while doctor is performing the surgery that everything goes well. .I'm confident I will not drop down below 120-130lbs.

I have done a lot of research, and what I have found is that it is normal to appear "to skinny" when losing weight. This Is caused by the rapid weight loss and extra skin.. The baggy skin makes you look very unhealthy. But once your skin tightens back up, then people start to notice your face and arms 'fill out', along with this is the fact that you still need to build up muscles that will also help fill you out In a heathy way. Appearing to skinny is part of the process. It goes away after some time. Regardless if you get lower then your goal weight or not this generally happens to people who lose more then 100lb in a year. Which is a lot very quickly. Do more searching on your own, ask your doctor and talk to people who are in the after stages of their WLS.. Yes it can appear to be scary, but keep your doctor informed as it happens and remember to expect it. It's not that you are getting to skinny, it's that this is a big drastic change, and people are going to notice that. Your body just needs time to catch up and do it's thing. :) acuna matata. No worries. ;)

This is true when you lose the weight fast others are going to notice especially people you havent seen in a while. I went to my Nurologist that I haden't seen since before my surgery in July he came out into the waiting room and said I'll be right back, while he was gone they called me back when he came into the room he couldn't belive it was me he told me how great I looked, and that hedid not recongize me in the waiting room. Made me feel really good, my family never tells me any thing about how I look. My husband has all ways been bad about sabatoging my diets in the past, buying things I loved but wasn't supposed to eat and I had 0 control. But now I could care less the day I had my

Sugery done he ordered a pizza to eat, I was eating chicken broth and Jello for dinner and my Dr came in saw what he was eatting in front of me and started fussing at him, I told the Dr it was fine I wasn't hungry any way it didn't bother me at all before I would have been mad at him eatting thay in front of when I couldn't have any. It's still that way when I was only on liquids or cream of chicken Soup, potatoe Soups, now I can eat what ever I want to eat.

Yes! Several friends and family have said it. One from a bit of envy- I'm losing, she's gaining. My mom also seems concerned. Said I needed to stop 40 pounds ago! She is heavy and I had been overweight my entire life so I don't think she has a realistic eye about what a healthy weight is. I am not skinny at 147-149 lbs. I still have belly fat but obviously look and feel better than before. Below is a pic from yesterday, I think I look average. As far as not being able stop, regain is easy. I am up 2 lbs from Xmas. :-( Good for you in staying with your decision.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
