Nervous...hosting a Xmas Party Tonight

Recommended Posts

So tonight is our annual Christmas Party we host at our house. I have some candy canes, made chocolate covered pretzels, and chili for our guest. Normally I do a big spread of Desserts but his year we decided to do a potluck style and I asked my friends to bring their favorite side dish. I am almost 4 weeks out so our AMAZING turkey chili will be fine for me but I am so worried of all of the temptations that will be brought into our house. I already told my husband any left over pretzels need to find a way home with a friend or in the trash after tonight. Lastnight I enjoyed a glass of wine to see how I could handle it. I did really good so I am going to try to enjoy a drink or two with friends tonight. Geeeeeez....I am so nervous though. Any suggestions.

Memily

holiday parties, et al

they are/can be hard for some/many/ME!!! :(

you are so early in the game, so it/situation "might" be easier for you

reason i say that is at 3 weeks out, i know i wouldn't/shouldn't eat most anything you are serving in any quantities

People have been shot for less ;)

you are on pureed/softs????

sounds like you are already planning ahead by getting rid of excess food

throwing pretzels in the trash????

ummmm - i threw cheese danish in the trash before, and it somehow they "jumped out" :o

don't you hate it when that happens

next time i through stuff out, i put dish washing detergent on it - not even i would eat that!!!!

be the great hostess i know you are

you have family and friends for a party!!!!

pass out/serve food to others - make pleasant conversation, you know what to do

easier, said than done, but TRY not to be tempted/or even think too much about how yummy that cookie will taste :o

make a plan to have something in your hands at all times if possible (glass of Water with lemon)???

not a great substitute for other stuff, but oh well :(

raising my glass of Water to your strength & willpower, determination!!!!

i have confidence in you

you DID make one mistake already

you forgot to invite me :(

good luck

kathy

Before people start arriving, try to sit down & eat some of the turkey chili ahead of time. This may help you to better resist the temptations around you tonight. Keep Water in your hand to sip throughout the party, and be very careful not to overdo the alcohol. Since you're not even a month out yet, you don't have any way to know what foods might not sit well or make you sick. Good luck!

Luckily all of the food brought was served with chips so I could not eat it. Yay! I did enjoy a few cocktails with my friends. I stayed hydrated and drank Water all through the night as well. So I did have some unnecessary calories but I rarely drink so this is the 1 out of 5 times a year for me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
