Gaining weight! Is something wrong?

Recommended Posts

September was 2 years since me lapband surgery. When I went in for my 2 year follow up the doctor took some liquid out, because I was having a hard time keeping food down. OMG! Now I can eat anything and everything. I have started gaining weight again. I know I'm consciously eating more because I'm able too again and I love food, but what's happening to my band? Could this be dangerous? I know I should go back to the doctor which I plan to after the New Year, but I want to enjoy the holidays. I definitely have food issues. Anyone?

Just because you can eat anything doesn't mean you should? This will be a diet for you till you get the fill that takes you back to the green zone. Good luck.

if you eat more calories than you burn off (you will gain weight) with any WLS

3500 calories is a pound ate or drank...

need to eat better food choices (baked vs fried)

leave boxed/processed items OUT

exercise and eat in your allotted amount sizes...

and def let the band (or any WLS) assist you with this..

Success with weight loss is dependent on getting the upper hand with your relationship with food. There is a psychology behind eating patterns which have taken WLS patients into the realm of obesity.

Though I am not a physician, I do feel that you would benefit to see a nutritionist to devise a healthier eating plan.

As a psychology professional, I can say that the other part to your equation is to reign in on your choices of food, and accept that we must adjust our beliefs about food. We must revise our thinking to "eat to live" rather than "live to eat" if we want long term success with weight loss and maintenance.

I have found it useful to use sipping Water or other no calorie drinks and distraction to keep my thoughts away from feelings of hunger. And I also use "self talk" and ask myself prior to eating anything which I know I should not have, do I really want this, or would I prefer to continue to move towards my weight loss goal?

The band is around your stomach, not your mind. You have an incredibly self empowering tool to use for weight loss...

Best wishes....

Sorry, you are going to have to watch your weight, just like a diet until l you get your fill. Don't overeat during the holidays, it won't make you happy! Try hard to resist! Best wishes. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year. Karen..aka..kll724

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
