Post Fill Diet Questions

Recommended Posts

So my Dr. puts me on a liquid diet for 6 days. I've attached a image of what he tells us to do. Now normally I just do the first day of Clear liquids then basically shorten each step by a day. What are ya'lls thoughts on this and what do ya'll do after getting filled.

Also he told me to never chew gum after the surgery and I have not since my surgery date almost 3 years ago. Is that true?

After a fill I am on Protein shakes for 2 days, then cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal for 2 days then regular diet. This is how my DR does it but everyones DR is diffrent.

As far as the gum goes, I chew gum everyday, I asked my surgeon if it was ok she said dont swallow it. But again diffrent Dr's have diffrent rules.

Your doctor is a little extreme but he's the boss. My doc just says 24 hours liquids.

Docs don't want you to chew gum since it's not digestible in a short period of time and if you swallow it, it may get stuck in the stoma causing you to go to the ER. I've never chewed gum as a habit or daily routine so this was never a problem for me.

after a fill my orders are 2 days liquid, 2days mushies and than regular. but it is important to follow your doctor's orders to your best of abilities. if you have a problem with his order take it up with him. explain the reason you have the problem. most doctors will work with you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
