Need a buddy in Tx

Recommended Posts

Hey looking for a buddy in Spring, Tx. I got banded on the 22nd of November. It would be nice to have someone I can chat with or hang out with or work out with that's going through the same thing as me. It's tough facing this journey alone. Besides having my mother in my corner.

Did you have any side cramps, like a runner type cramp? Its getting better, but when i do a lot of walking or errands, the oain gets worse. Im also moving on to mushies and nervous of all these stuck stories. What eas your menu like during this phase?

I did not have side cramps sorry. But had the worse shoulder pain. That lasted almost two weeks. Still kinda have a little swelling around one of my incisions. My mushy period was just mainly cream Soups, Jello, mashed potatoes, fish, Beans, lentil Soup. Nothing too solid.

So far I haven't had any problems with anything getting stuck, it's been going down smoothly. And thank god I haven't dealt with nausea.

What has been your weight loss so far? I know it's my healing stage and I'm not supposed to be worrying about that at this time, but easier said than done :) Tell me your diet, what are some things you eat? Give me some ideas :)

This might be the muscle that the port is stitched into. Mine actually had spasms and I could see it twitch. But it does go away. For port pain use ice. For shoulder pain from gas use a heating pad.

And if you are eating mushies that are like baby food consistency you won't get stuck. Just think would a baby with no teeth be able to eat it? And once to solids just remember small bites and chew chew chew. Getting stuck does suck but you overcome it and learn to eat properly.

Best of luck!

So far I've loss 32 pounds. For me the healing stage was where I lost the most weight cause you can't really do anything and your pretty much on liquids and mushies. Well when I was on mushies I just had my Protein shake in the morning, maybe Jello in the afternoon if I was hungry or pudding/ yogurt and Soup at night if I was hungry. As of right now, I transitioned to straight solids already. I'm having eggs and sausage for Breakfast, Protein in afternoon with a yogurt if I'm hungry and for dinner I make whatever, turkey breast, chicken breast with cooked veggies. I still have fish. I just look for new recipes. Yesterday I made a cabbage casserole. I've taken out all pastas and breads. Try not to eat those if you don't have to. I've tried that tuna on the go with crackers, that worked well.

What are your rules after fills? I had My first one and I'm kind of mad....lol. My doc said 7 days of Clear Liquids. I just feel beat down. I paid all this money to help with hunger control and restriction and I feel as if I have been starving 3 weeks out of the 6 I have been doing this :( Trying to stay motivated and positive, but hunger is taking over and making me miserable. I needed to vent....cheer me up :)

Wow 7 days that's too long. It should only be two days of clear liquids, the next day soft foods and the fourth day back to your normal diet. Do what you feel you need to do. If your hungry start off slow of course with soft foods then progress. Hope you get through it. Good luck.

Give it time. Your band is not properly adjusted. Search "bandster hell" to see how many others have shared your struggle. And yes. Until you are properly adjusted it can be a struggle.

I in in Humble, TX and was banded Nov 14. I lost 15lbs post op and 5 before first fill- I went for my 2nd fill today and have gained 3lbs. No, I have not been very good about measuring and suddenly I have a sweet tooth I never had before. Knowing I gained after I spent all this cash is sobering so Im really going to start trying. I really have not been a good bandster, eating up a phase too soon and things as that. I even drank 1/2 a cherry coke. Obviously I am heading for trouble before my band even gets to work. Im starting to think I need to see a therapist to learn some tools to quit self-sabotaging. I AM however starting to eat before I get full and am noticing I can go 4 -5 hours between meals ok. I just want to eat chips and salsa and ch

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
