This is so encouraging. My surgery is in two weeks. I'm scared sh*tless. I'm afraid I'm gonna die.

Don't worry! You will not die!!! Seriously, not sure if you read the recent article that was just posted on here yesterday??? The death rate for WLS surgery has gone from .8% all the way down now to .03%. It has safer fatality rates than plain old gall bladder surgeries! I believe the clinical studies had over 160,000 patients in there. Long story short, you will not die. You will be over with the surgery so fast you won't even think they actually performed it! Ha! And I highly recommend journaling each day, whether it's on here or not! Again, I took the advice of @luminouslife and it has been very therapeutic to sit down at my computer and reflect on the minor "Wins" I have each day (like drinking Water normally!).

Well, today has been another great day! No pain meds at all. I worked for the first half of the day and then my husband and I ran a bunch of errands and I got a lot of walking in. I've been thinking of random things that have crossed my mind today that others might find helpful. I went back to the Vitamin Shoppe today because I needed more Protein Powder (ran out of my old kind from months ago) and I decided on the Isopure Dutch chocolate. I highly recommend it and the LOW carbs/HIGH Protein is perfect. Also, if anyone is looking for a shaker, check out the Smart Shaker (I think that's what it is called). It's awesome because two separate parts unscrew from the bottom so you could store Vitamins in one layer and more protein powder in the other. Also, I'm sure that most do this, but if you are prepping for what to buy, the 4 oz. Rubbermaid containers are awesome. I have a week's worth of those filled to the 2 oz. line with French onion Soup broth, Jello, pudding, and refried Beans. Ahhh, refried beans have now been 3 lunches of mine and there are two more baby cups in the fridge. I still cannot even get over that I will have gotten 5 full lunches out of ONE CAN of fat free refried beans. Unbelievably awesome! Oh, and I weighed today... Down 19lbs total. Loving my sleeve! I know there are a lot of negative posts and some people even regret it, but I seriously feel like myself again, am full from small amounts of food, exercising daily, and am losing weight... Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Hope everyone is having a good day with their sleeve! :)

Love ready your journal #dreamscometrue, I would like to also journal my journey but so busy. I haven't been sleeved yet, finishing up my testing. I have a few more to go

1- endoscopy

2- ultra sound of gall bladder

3- psych evaluation

Then info will be submitted I guess. Hopefully my surgery can be scheduled by end of march bcuz that's when I am eligible for FMLA. They do accommodation but it doesn't guarantee your job. Does anyone know more about FMLA or job accommodation? I am also holding back on buying new clothes in larger sizes cuz I am looking forward to being smaller soon. Hopefully I will be ready for summer.

:-)

Nothing new today, but I just wanted to get on here to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Tomorrow, we will head back to our home town in the morning and we are going to have our first Christmas shrimp boil. I'm also making an avocado/bean/corn type of a salad. This is all giving me a bit of anxiety seeing that I'm only a week post-op and this will be the first time I've seen any of my family since surgery (other than my mom who knows). I won't be drinking, which I'm sure will trigger the "are you pregnant" card. Annnnddd I have no clue what I'm going to eat, which I'm curious if anyone will question me. Luckily, I'm good at BS-ing and I think very well on my feet. It will be fine, they've all seen my crazy fad diets over the years and I've been planting the seed for about a month now that I've been eating healthy and exercising. Anyway, wish me luck tomorrow! You guys all stay strong on the food front, also! I'm sure there will be a lot of sugar Cookies, fudge, pies, etc.. that will be causing more people than just I a bit of anxiety. Just remember why we chose to have this surgery! :)

Oh my gosh, the 31st is just right around the corner! I'm sure you've been doing this, but if you are anxious like I was, you can start getting food prepped at home and divided into 2 oz. cups, start packing your hospital bag (don't forget gas-x strips and chapstick), and clean your house meticulously! That's at least what I did because I like a really clean house and not having laundry to do, which was SO NICE to come home from the hospital to a house like that! Good luck on your journey, you will do great! I just got off the treadmill and feel great and it's only been a week! Once those first 3 days are over, you'll be back to feeling normal. :)

I'm officially out of the 40+ BMI range! Just updated my ticker and was DELIGHTED to see 39 as my new BMI. :) I'm sure that sounds really stupid, but I remember being so embarrassed when I realized my BMI had reached 40 awhile back. It's nice to think I won't see that number anymore! So, tomorrow we are heading out of town to meet up with another couple for an annual "get-away" weekend trip. I posted about this prior to surgery and had a ton of anxiety about if I would feel up to going, what I was going to eat, would I run out of energy, etc… Now that I'm on the other side, I know I'll have plenty of energy and am excited about going EXCEPT I had to start a little lie today saying that I've caught a stomach bug and haven't felt like eating much and that Soup is really all I can hold down. Hopefully, that will be enough to keep the questions away. Nothing else really to report other than Jello, refried Beans, pudding, watered down soup are REALLY GETTING OLD. I've been reading some interesting topics on here from the vets these past few days and now knowing that I'm in the "honeymoon phase and don't know what it's really like until I'm 6 months out and it feels as if I almost was never sleeved," i'm trying to embrace this regimented phase of full liquids and staying on track. It's been making me question what the future holds. I've gone through so many diets over the years and have lost track of how many times I've ran my ass off, eaten 1200 calories a day, and lived at the gym taking every workout class available, which led to losing 50 pounds to turn around and gain 60 pounds the next year. I know that this will be a lifetime of this new "normal", and when things get more difficult a few months from now, I'll know that I'm much better off with the sleeve to fight this battle than I would have ever been without it. That's all for now. Wish me luck this weekend! :)

Got my results for my echo gram. Everything is ok. So glad. Now I have my endoscopy and psych val and then I guess they submit the info. Yay:-). One question for dreamscometrue did u lose your hair? That's my concern.

YAY!!! You are one step closer to having surgery, which has got to be a great feeling! To answer your question, I have not lost any hair. I started taking Biotin from day 1 post-op and I'm still only 10 days out, so I would expect that if it's going to happen, it would be at least a month from now. Luckily, I have A LOT of hair, but that was a major concern of mine before surgery. I will definitely post about it if I notice a change though.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
