Bathroom Issues From Pre Opt Diet....

Recommended Posts

I'm starting day 3 of my 9 day pre opt diet. When I was eating my usual high calorie, high fat, high sugar, high carb etc diet I poo between 3 - 4 times a day. Now I'm going once a day and (sorry for the TMI) it's a bit of a strain to get it out and it isn't very much.

I'm a little surprised because I'm drinking so many fluids that I assumed I'd be having even more frequent, soft/liquid stools (like diarrhea).

How about you guys that are on the clear liquid diet (broth, Protein Shakes, Jello, SF popsicles) diet like me? Are you experimenting irregularity compared to your own diet? Are u taking any kind of laxatives or stool softeners?

I'm debating if I should call my nutritionist or wait it out.

I would let the nurse or nutritionist know your concerns now before it becomes a really big issue. Constipation can be a truly ugly and incredibly painful issue post op so talk to them noe and get it addressed! I speak from experience!

If you're tracking what you eat....how much Fiber are you getting in? I know that When I went from full solids to liquids for my pre-op, my Fiber pretty much went to zero and that doesn't help things one bit! I was okay to have un-sweetened applesauce which allowed me to get a little bit of fiber in and allowed things to start moving again. This worked for me, but make sure you talk to someone too as Bronco0605 suggested!

I have the opposite effect, liquid poo. I am on my last day of the 14 day diet and surgery is tomorrow. I am sure I will have the reverse in no time.

thanks for the advice! i actually ended up pooping later that day, but i'm still going to consult my nutritionist b/c again, i used to go like 3 to 4 times, so 1 feels weird. it's actually surprising to me that i even have solid poops when i've been on liquid since saturday

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
