Anyone go back to work two weeks after surgery?

Recommended Posts

My Bariatric team recommends a month to recover. Unfortunately, I can't afford to stay out the full month. I go back exactly 2 weeks after surgery and I'm a bit nervous. I'm still having incision pain. And I work in the medical field. I go back in four more days. Had anyone gone back this early? If so, was your incision pain gone? And how did your body handle going back so soon?

I did. My pain was nearly gone if not totally. I work in an office.

I had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. Of course, I only took off a few days after having my kids and think I both heal fast and have a high pain tolerance. I work in an office.

I am an RN and I went back at 11 days post op. I work 12 hour nights and I was fine. Granted, I never really had any incision pain and I wasn't super busy those first couple of nights. I also only work on the weekends. I wish you well.

I am also a medical professional and went back to work after exactly 2 weeks. I had some muscle soreness under the largest incision when I sat straight up so I got an abdominal binder from Walgreens and it made all the difference in the world!! Good luck!!

I work in an office and although my doc has me off until Jan 6th, I'm going in for a meeting tomorrow and catching up. Feel alright.

I'm a 7th grade teacher, and I returned after two weeks. I was not having incision pain, but I suffered from dehydration. I did okay, but there were a few days I was weak and nauseous. I just took my phenegran when I needed it. Because I'm on my feet all day, it was a little tiring. I survived though :-). My surgery was on October 23rd. Good luck!

It's hard hard hard to remember to drink enough when you first go back. I had an alarm on my phone my first two weeks back at work. Also I would forget to "eat" too. I was on liquids for a week and then on purée. when I went to purée it was easier. My purée recipes are still in the Recipe section somewhere.

I went back almost right away too. Work from home, though, and mostly office work. Had to staff an event exactly two weeks out, from 3 to 11 and mostly on my feet. I wore my abdominal binder for a good 3-4 weeks. It really helped.

Went back to work after two weeks too. Everything felt fine so surgeon cleared me to start work again at the two week checkup. Was still a bit tired at the end of the day the first week back at work and I commute on a bus which ended up being a bit painful on the incisions when it went through potholes. Everyone will be different though in the end on whether they still feel pain or not at that point.

I had surgery two weeks ago tomorrow and I'm going back to work, tomorrow. I have a desk job mostly, sometimes I'm out in the field driving around, but most times not. I can decide when I want to go out to inspect things... this week I think I'll stay in and relax.

I work as a Poker dealer, while I do sit down, I move my abdomen quite a bit. I went back to work 9 days after surgery. yesterday was my first day back. I only had mild pain when I got home but I think it's because I drank my Protein Drink too fast.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
