With lots of determination, it's really hard but this journey is not an easy quick fix. Take comfort in the fact that thousands of us have done it and come through the other side. There will be tears and frustration but every time you see the scale move backward and the pants that were too tight are now too loose you give yourself a little boost. Everyone goes through the different stages and we are all here to help.

Every stage is different and has its adjustments. Keep reminding yourself why your here and that every day/week is a new one. Don't get bogged down in what you haven't done, but what you have. Try and stay away from temptation as much as possible and believe in YOU.

You're lucky--at least you get to eat solid food once a day! My preop diet is shakes only....I am SO not looking forward to it!

my preop diet was 2 shakes and one very small meal a day...I lost 10 kg in 4 weeks and my liver shrunk to the optimal size for the bypass..its all about learning a new way of living and looking at the way we eat...6 months post surgery and I have lost 50 kg. It seems like punishment at fiest but It is a journey I am glad I embarked on. I gave 40 kg to go to get to my goal. Good luck to you!

I agree, very lucky. I had 3 shakes and 2 Snacks like unsweetened applesauce or yogurt. It was a wonderful time to get focused and to get hour head in the game before surgery rather than trying to deal with physical and mental together.

3 shakes and leafy green veggies x2 weeks for my preop. I started 2 days early 'cause I was SO ready. Yes, I'm starved and yes, I've had headaches. But I'm on day 12 and It's totally doable... I survived an early Xmas party, a birthday party, and today a memorial service for a friend that passed away Friday. I don't have to tell you about all the food (and alcohol) at those events and I made it through by sipping Water non-stop. Just buck up and keep your eye on the big picture. This is only 2 weeks towards improving the rest of your life.

I did 5 shakes and Water a day for 16 days pre op. So glad I did because I really set the stage for success early for myself in doing so.

First months post op weigh in...was down 36 pounds.

It's not always fun but it's doable. You'll be fine. Take time for you during this time.

I was on the same pre-op Kindle was, I was quite worried going in, maybe more worried about the pre op than I am the surgery! I did just fine. I turned a corner on day 4 as far as hunger goes and it was much easier from that point on. When I was tempted to cheat I asked myself - are you ready to make this major change or not? Compliance with my surgeon's instructions is only the beginning. Following the advice of trained professionals, as well as seasoned members of this forum is only in my best interest.

My surgery is tomorrow, I've lost 16 lbs since December 1. You got this! You can do it!

Kindle! Congrats, I'm sure it was very hard but you did it. Thanks for the encouragement

Thanks, the hardest part was actually dodging the questions about why I wasn't eating or did I try this or that.

(OK, I lied, the hardest part was not eating the Lays potato chips :) ) after all these sweet shakes I'm craving salt!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
