Supervised Diet...i Haven't Lost Any Weight

Recommended Posts

I am so nervous. My paper work regarding my Six month Supervised diet will be submitted I'm January and still have not lost any weight. Have anyone gotten denied because you didn't loose any weight on the six month diet.

So sorry about all the typos. I'm doing this from my phone and for some reason I can't see anything that I type. So I apologize if any of what I said sounds confusing

I haven't heard of that specifically, but I think it really depends on what your insurance requires as the result of your six month supervised diet. Some insurance requires that you lose a certain percentage of your body weight, some that you at least don't gain any weight, others (like mine) require that you fail at dieting and don't lose a specified percentage of your body weight. Check your plan documents to see what they say. If it just says that you have to do the supervised diet but doesn't say anything about outcome, my guess is that they shouldn't deny you based on the outcome -- as long as you followed their rules about specified numbers of meetings with the doctor or nutritionist, etc.

It's not the insurance company, it's your doctor. They want the procedure to be safer by shrinking your liver. My doctor told me the same thing. I knew i would be put on a two week liquid diet before surgery so i started on my own. I drank slim fast twice a day and something light for dinner. I lost 5 pounds the first week. But my doctor had me drink 5 shakes a day, and sugar free Jello. I was told to lose 20 pounds within the two weeks but only lost 13. They just want to see your that trying. I had surgery last Tuesday December 3

How are you feeling Linda? Today should be your last day on clear fluids. How has your experience been with your sleeve so far?

I agree....the doctor and insurance are two separate entities. The insurance company may or may not want an outcome ( gain or loss weight). It's just a formality prior to approval. Your doctor may work more with you as he/she understands your struggles with weight lost. My doctors office was great I had a question I would call them and they would look into it for me.

Has your Steri-Strips fallen off yet? What does your doctor think of you progress so far? I go in for my first pre-op appointment tomorrow and I have not gone back to work yet. I'm down 14.9 lbs so far and feel great!

My surgeon's office REQUIRES all patients to lose 10% of the amount of weight they are overweight. I am 220 lbs. overweight (eeeeek!), so my requirement is 22 lbs. Until I lose that amount, they will not put in for insurance approval.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
