Did you end up back in the hospital?

  1. 1. After VSG did you end up back in the hospital for any reason pertaining to the WLS?

I was wondering how common it is for people to end up back in the hospital for any reason having to do with the WLS?

I think that you will see that the number of people who have problems is very small compared to the number of successes. One thing you can do to help prevent having to come back after your initial surgery is to follow your doctor and nutritionist's advice on pre and post-op diets. Don't have foods sooner than they recommend. Follow their program. They have helped several patients and know what is best for you.

Thanks. I have my surgery in 10 days and my husband is taking time off for that but I have a small child that I have no one else available to care for her but myself and If I needed to go back to the hospital the only other person who can take care of her is her dad and he's constantly working. I know the risk of having to be readmitted is there but I was just wanting to see how common it is.

Hi,

I was one of the unfortunate ones. I was sleeved 2 weeks + 3 days ago.. My hospital stay was extended for 1 week due to pneumonia & a partial lower collapsed lung :( wasn't in my plans but hey this kind of stuff happens. Got released on the Saturday & was back in ED 3 days later with pleural effusion of my other lung , along with another infection in that lung :( it's been a hard road but I stay positive & hope all will be ok soon. It's good to plan ahead but you just never know how it's all going to go.. Anything can happen. Best of luck to you :)

I spent one night in the hospital at surgery time and have had a easy recovery.

It seems like a lot of people who end up back in the hospital is due to dehydration from not being able to get enough fluids.

I was in the Er before thanksgiving for begin constipated and with rectal bleeding and cramping in the lower abdominal area and now I'm on ciparo 500mgs two times s day and I'm on flygal 250 mgs three times a day and my dr said its an inflamed bowel and if it doesn't clear up then I have to see a gastroenterologist dr to see what's going on so I don't think it's all Er visits are due to dehydration like the one poster stated

I was in the hospital one week after surgery for an ER visit due to chest pain. They released me. I didn't get any better and about one week later I was in the ER and admitted for a month due to a leak that wasn't my fault but surgeon's.

I'd like to add: I went to a Bariatric "center or excellence" or whatever the official title is.

You can't know what's going to happen until it happens. Just follow your doctor's orders to a T and hope for the best :) also, take care NOT to over do it with your daughter. The minor financial strain of hubs taking a few extra days off is nothing compared to popping a suture from lifting your baby and going through another surgery for repair and the long hospital stay. Not to forget the financial strain of the second stay hospital bills :s

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
