How long of a wait from lst meeting to surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.....

I am attending my first group meeting on Monday (informational). What has the timeline been for all of you from the first formal step to the surgery? I would like to have the surgery in June. But, of course, I may be way off base. June just works into my schedule since I am at a University. Am I being at all realistic???:):)

I suppose it depends on if you are self-paying. Or if your insurance covers it. If your looking to have your insurance pay for it, I couldn't tell you a timeline. But if you are self-paying, the turnaround time is pretty quick. For me, I went to the free seminar on March 6, 2007. I submitted the paperwork and got my surgery scheduled for April 12, 2007. :)yay!!!!

So a little over a month:). I hope this answers your questions. Good luck with what your looking for.

Lucy's right... self pays can have a much quicker turn around. I have Empire BCBS, and they require 6 mos of supervised weight loss. I don't think that a June date would be out of the question though... it just depends on your insurance company, and your doctor. Good luck with everything!:)

June sound totally realistic. It took me about 6 weeks to get through all of the pre surgeon appointments, bloodwork and insurance approval. Good luck.

It was less than a month for me, but I was also self-pay. I do believe insurance takes much longer.

I was covered by Medicare. I was approved and my doctor was willing to schedule me within 2 weeks. I choose to wait 30 days for surgery.

I guess I am the speedy gonzales in this procedure LOL as I went to my meeting on June 26,2006, met with the doctor the next day, and told them I wanted my surgery on July 5, 2006. They said they weren't sure we could get it all done, but, I had the psych evaluation, and the sleep study done the day before surgery, my insurance papers were sent on Friday, they approved the Monday before the 4rth of July, so they could all be off I guess, and I had it done on the 5th as planned. I guess it all worked out, though, I only had to do the liquids for 9 days. I could not have a salad , just slim fast, but it passed quickly. I had my sister arrange for those days off to help me, and it all went perfectly.

My husband went to his meeting, had all his stff done, and insurance approved within the two week liquid diet, and all went great. Our insurance stuff all went perfectly for us. Hope this helps.....MIZBOO

I have had most of my dr visits, everything is done except for the surgon visit. they are telling me that i can probably look forward to a june date. I gues they are busy... I WANT IT NOW... not in 3-4 months. they say that the wait is to make sure that you really want this and are serious about the commitment. My file goes to review april 4th... has anyone else had a LONG wait? I first went to my info session in jan... then it took 2 months to get in to the rn and dietican... grr.... but i will wait.. it is worth it..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
