Stall ... I'm So Discouraged! Help!

Recommended Posts

Brief Story: I weighed 275 when I started the 6 month Supervised Diet Visits. I got down to 262 the day of surgery which was Oct 28th. I weight 242.5 today. I have been 242.5 since Nov 18 and the scale will not move. I started tracking my Protein and calories a week ago in Sparkpeople. I get 60 to 65 grams of Protein a day. I'm drinking 50+ oz of Water a day. I'm getting 600 to 800 calories a day. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I exercise 30 to 45 minutes a day at least 5 days a week.

I feel like the biggest failure. I've heard of 1 week stalls, maybe 2, but I'm going on a 3 week stall. Is this normal? My next doctor's appointment is Dec 18th.

I can't believe that I'm failing at this too. I didn't think I would, but it feels now like I am.

You are not failing - take your measurements. I just came off a 3 week stall - it was so disheartening that I stopped weighing myself. After 3 weeks, I'm down 4 lbs. I was ready to think that I just wasn't going to lose any more weight, but just like me you will. Best wishes to you.

You are not failing, you've hit that plateau that just about everyone does, right on schedule. You are normal. Keep following the program (sounds like you are doing great!) and the weight will come off - it just won't necessarily come off in a nice, smooth, straight line, downward pattern. If you graphed out my weight loss over the past almost six months, it would look like a staircase designed by visually impaired chimpanzee, but I'm still doing well overall. Don't let a little pause in weight loss derail you or get you down -- seriously, I cannot repeat this enough -- it is normal! You are doing great.

This. Right. Here.

I'll repeat what others have written. You are not failing. How many calories does your Nutritionist (if you have one) say you should be taking in? My NUT bumped me up to about 1000 at 6 weeks. Especially if you are exercising everyday, you may need more calories. If you are following your instructions, then your body may just be adjusting.

Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
