I Have A Leak And I'm Scared.

Anabannana (ohh, I love your name!) I am glad that they caught you and treated you. The "glue" will certainly work. Consider it a substance that makes you heal together (like a scab) rather than "glue"... and when a scab heals... it HEALS!!!

Don't worry, pay attention, and focus on getting better. You are with friends here!

ahh, sorry i thought they found it right after your surgery (i misread the extra days in the hospital as time you had to stay after surgery). isn't it weird how our bodies do things to protect our organs? like abcesses and capsules. i remember my doctor feeling my stomach to see if he could feel any bulges or hard spots, it must have been for an abcess. luckily i didn't have one. i have a feeling the leak drains back into the stomach because it has no where else to go, as it's not draining into anything. i wanted a follow up upper gi, but my family doctor said do what the surgeon says he doesn't want to upset anything prematurely. you healed in a decent amount of time. your team really knew what they were doing. i hope mine does. i got my surgery in Mexico, the specialist my GP hooked me up with is supposed to be really good. he has horrible 'bedside manner'. but i'm trusting him. Im in canada, in a place where they don't really do vsg's for WLS but, they do partial gastrectomies and whatnot so i guess that's the same really.

Oh not to worry! I hope you have an uneventful and speedy recovery now!

Sorry for the last post. Havent used the site on my phone so I quoted and hit reply before I could answer.

Ive been in the hospital the last two weeks. IV fluids, cipro and flagyll anti biotics. Three days with an NG tube to suction all my stomach secretions (interesting colors coming out that tube) and now I'm on a nasal jejunum or NJ tube for the next six weeks. Ill catch up more when I get home from the hospital.

that's awful thicvik. i'm so sorry.

don't be afraid to get your own surgery. you just gotta be really aware of how you feel after surgery. if you get any fever or fast pulse or weird new pains go to the hospital and get a scan immediately. even if you feel something isn't 'right'.

like i mentioned, my leak was 'contained'. so i was very very lucky not to have developed sepsis or abcesses. still, i was never quite right after surgery. i had pain and i had a seriously hard time keeping food down and threw up a lot. my leak was found by accident. amazingly. i am not sure if it was on it's way to getting worse, or slowly healing. i just thank god that i didn't get mega sick. i am home now. and on a tube feed with a tube in my nose down to my jejunum for the next six weeks. it's uncomfortable and i have to consume 1900 calories a day to heal this sucker (makes me feel kinda sad cuz i probably won't lose weight but who knows, i'd rather heal than lose 10 lbs). and you never know. i'm getting straight nutrition in my tube so i might not gain anything at all.

i had a really difficult time trying to get my doctor in my hometown to listen to my mexican doctors advice. five weeks ago when this leak was found the mexican doctor suggested a NJ tube and when i saw the doc here he pretty much ignored that advice. did the glue. the glue takes six weeks to work, yes it causes me to form a scar over the leak, not plug it. he finally got a hold of another bariatric surgeon here in canada who said the same thing as my surgeon in Mexico. nj tube for six weeks. so i started this four weeks too late. now i have to wait till the end of january to get this taken out. so my doctor in mexico knew what he was talking about. i'm pissed off at the disrespect he recieved from my hometown doctors. i won't complain though. im glad i got the tube because i trust my original surgeon.

thank you for thinking of me. its been a whirlwind of emotions. some days i feel like i regret this, some days i worry i won't heal, some days i want to rip this tube out and pretend nothing is wrong. i feel really light headed and im filled with major anxiety. they took me off all my anxiety pills cold turkey in the hospital and i'm just back on them so i'm having a hard time readjusting.

i'll keep you all updated. hopefully this will be a happy ending.

I agree with anabanana. I did end up with an abcess. You just have to listen to yourself and your body when it is telling you that something is not right. You will know when something is wrong. Thicvik I am so sorry that you have lost someone to thus surgery. I cannot begin to imagine what that feels like. You just need to do what you feel is right.

everyone thought i was being a baby here at home. i know i ate too fast which caused me to vomit a lot. i wonder sometimes if vomitting caused the leak. like it was still healing and the extreme heaves i had popped a staple. i'll never know. but yeah, every time i had a new type of 'pain' i had never experienced i'd go to the hospital. they would take me in right away, one time i went and had a bowel impaction, another time it was just bad gas. then the leak thing. so there was always a reason and once i figured out what it was if i had that pain again i would be like 'okay i need to get on some gasx like right now' or 'i need to get a suppository and laxative'.

well it's been three weeks on the tube feed. i am feeling okay. i have no hunger so i am not suffering by not eating. it's pretty easy to feed yourself. i'm throwing in 100grams of Protein every day mixing my powder with lots of Water and using cans of promote, kinda like ensure. all my Vitamins are good. i eat a cracker with my medications. the only thing that i can't deal with is gaviscon, every time i take it i throw it back up (gently). don't know why my tummy hates it, but i don't like the acidy feeling when i take a pill.

i have an appt with the doctor next monday at 2:45. not sure if he's gonna pull the tube out, or send me for an upper gi to see if the leak is gone first. i've had the tube for almost three weeks, so technically 3 more weeks. hope it heals faster than that since they did that glue thing 5 weeks ago. can't wait to drink water! i'm so craving iced tea!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
