Only day 1 of the pre-op and I'm struggling already :(

I know the feeling. My husband was eating crab and i so wanted to dive into his plate. Instead i just nibbled on my salad.< /p>

I have the same date as you both (Jan 6) at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC and was told only to do Clear Liquids starting 24 hours before surgery. But I've been having a lot of "last meals" which I'm worried will cause more weight gain (I'm on vacation and have no scale) so I think I'll put myself on a low carb diet until the 5th and then do the day of liquids. I'm also weaning myself off of coffee and caffeine now because I really don't feel like going through caffeine withdrawal while trying to heal from surgery...lol

My date is Jan. 8. I was able to maintain a low carb diet since I began seeing my NUT in mid October. On Christmas Day I had to begin a13 day diet of 2 Protein Shakes and a "sensible" meal - 4 oz of lean meat or seafood, 1 cup of cooked vegetables and a small salad with light dressing. Jan. 7 is all day clear liquids... I want my low carb diet back :( Hopefully I'll adjust in a couple days but right now I'm hungry!

Oh :( and I've been off caffeine for about 3 weeks and carbonated beverages since I began the low carb. It was easier than I expected but I miss my Diet Coke! It was just so much easier to pop open a can - not a big coffee fan.

Which city are you having your surgery?

My surgery date is January 9 th in Michigan at Beaumont hospital. The liquid diet with one meal is so difficult I am starving and have headaches. How do they expect you to do this ? If I could have done this I wouldn't need surgery. Anyone else feeling the same way?

Crozer Chester Hospital outside Philadelphia. It's just so interesting how the surgeons have different pre-op routines. I feel safer following a conservative method but envy those who don't :) Telling myself this is my new life. Can't take it easy now, that's how I got myself in this predicament.

That's how I felt when I started my low carb diet but I lost 40 lbs on Atkins once - gained it all back plus. I'm sure I would be more upset if I had a headache with the liquid diet!

521 Diva As you read the other posts you will see that most surgeons have differing opinions on pre-op diets. My friend is having surgery in February at a different hospital in the Philadelphia suburbs and she doesn't have 2 week diet either. I'm going to follow my doctor's directions. He has an excellent success rate and I'm happy with the support I receive from his practice.

Ok thank u. Good luck.

My husband says they should just induce me in a coma for 2 weeks. He isn't looking forward to this...lol. I'm giving it my best! Keep me lifted in your thoughts!

Lol good luck.

Yes!!!!! My thoughts exactly. I've given up coffee as well-so I am just one miserable human being.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
